I have a chance to get a broken 30" Slimfit (last years model) from my girlfriend for free.

This is the second time that the set has broken -- the first time, it was the power supply. It was fixed under extended warranty. Two months later, it broke again.

Should I have the set repaired, or put my $$ towards a new TV? The repair guy I spoke to refused to speculate on price, which makes me believe it will be expensive.

Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

GF giving you broken stuff? Forget the TV, scrap the GF. J/K :D

I don't think it's worth it. The guy will surely charge you over 100 and most likely more just for the trouble. Heck, new ones are only 600, although I've read several anecdotal reports of the Slimfits breaking down after about a year. And if it's already broken down twice, it'll more than likely happen again. LCD prices continue to go down, with the 32" Vizio looking like a good budget option at 600.

Not worth it.

Well I dropped it off before any of these replies were received -- besides, they give a free estimate, LOL. They had to send for the service manual, so I will hopefully get more info next week.

Will post the results. Thanks for all feedback!
