I've got for my receiver I got the Samsung HT Q45.

For inputs it's got an optical but no HDMI.

I stupidly assumed that by the PS3 having optical out and the player having optical in, I'd be golden. Now I've got stereo instead of surround sound because SACDs won't play over optical and my player has no HDMI so my only option is analog.

So I was thinking, is there any sort of solution here? It's been my experience that there's always something can be done. Maybe there's a box out there that'll receive HDMI, convert and output to optical? Maybe there exists some kind of go between reciever that'll do whatever needs to be done with the HDMI signal and pass the raw output to my receiver via optical? Any ideas?

Ain't going to happen...You can't put 10 pounds of sound in a 5 pound bag. S/PDIF (optical) does not have the bandwidth to do six channels of high resolution uncompressed audio. Oh yea and you have copy protection issues on top of those physical limitations.
