Hi all. I am new to this forum, and wondering if you could offer advice. My Samsung HLM507W went "black" a few weeks ago. I unplugged and waited several hours, replugged and still no picture. The status light shows "normal" and I replaced the bulb about 6 months ago.

Called a service tech, and he says I need to replace the "digital board," which after the service call ($175), and the part $826, will put me over $1000. I looked at partstore and the only digital board I can find looks like it is priced at about $460 (Direct Replacement for Samsung Part Number AA94-11908A) Looks like a pretty high markup.

I am thinking about ordering the service manual online and trying to tackle this myself. Can you offer any advice? Thanks

Ed

IMO, I would not pay $1000 to repair it since that gets close to the price of new, better displays. I just had the digital board replaced in my HLN, but it was free (5-year EW). Unless you know what you're doing, I wouldn't replace it yourself, plus there's no guarantee that the digital board is the problem.

I totally agree. Also the technology on the new sets produce a much better picture. I have a HLN617 that I paid $4000 for. I am happy with this set, but if somthing needed replacement other than a bulb I would not consider it a worthwhile investment.
