I noticed on the D* website they show what you need to receive the future MPEG-4 channels. It shows that you need the 5lbn dish (which I have) and the HR-20 or H20 receiver (which I have), but it also showed that you need to have the B-Band converter installed. I noticed that it wasn't installed on my H20, so I looked in my D* box and saw the b-band converter. I just installed it.
I know that the current local channels are MPEG-4, but I never had the b-band installed so was I not receiving the MPEG-4? I'm waiting for tonight when the HD programs come on on the locals to see if there is a difference, but I wanted to ask you guys first.
Thanks.
No you where still getting MPEG4 HD just the ones in KA high freq. The B-Band converter will be needed to receive the newer MPEG4 HD channels that will be KA low frequency. I hope this helps and maybe someone else can qoute me better on this!

I don't think the B-Band converter comes into play until the new MPEG4 channels start going live on the D*10 satellite they just launched. Going live in Sept/Oct I beleive. So bottom line you weren't missing anything without it right now.
True but the new sat comes on line in Sept. so its better to upgrade and use it now than wait to later and wonder why your not receiving the new channels!

Some local HD channels will be moving to the B band when the new satellite is in operation too.

Does anyone know if the hr20-100 has gotten the update for it to read the b-band properly? I've had problems with mine, but have heard on other forums this is an issue that is supposed to be addressed. I am now getting a searching for signal on 771 when I turn to channel 499.

You're good. If the software wasn't present, you would get no message because that channel cannot be tuned. If the software is present and the BBC is working, you get a searching for signal message because the satellite is not yet active.

So why did they put up the test channel (499) if it isn't ready?

Because the HR-700 was ready for the test, but the HR-100 wasn't. However for the most part the 100 works with the test now. DBStalk has a large thread about the test and issues with it in the HR20 section of the forum.
