I'm getting ready to purchase a new HD TV and I've noticed that rarely do I see PiP mentioned anymore.
is this going away, or am I looking at the wrong specs.
A couple of the tv's I've been researching I can't seem to find if they have PiP.
Samsung HLT6189s and the Mitsubishi 73734.
I realize most of the HDDVRs have the feature but what if you want to say have your console on one input and television on another?

Why is this?
Is it because of all the external DVR's etc?

PIP really isn't demanded much in a TV set anymore. It seems most cable/sat boxes have it and in the TV it would be redundant and just add cost.
The people planning to use CableCard do want it and those sets usually have it.

This is also what I have found. I dont use it but it's built in with my Cable box as well as my TV set.

PiP in only useful if you watch "live" TV. I haven't done that since the 20th century. Even when I first got PiP in 1991 I rarely used it. I started time shifting a good portion of my TV viewing in 1984 and when I started using TiVo it just became so much easier where I stopped watching "live" TV completely.

On top of this, with a dual tuner DVR (Series 3 Tivo in this case), I like to sometimes pause what I'm watching on one tuner when I'm watching "Live TV", flip over to the second tuner and do a little channel surfing and flip back to fast forward through the commercials. Much more convenient for me.

I use my TV's PiP everyday. I wanted a new Sony TV but they dropped PiP so I switched to Samsung. The SA 8300HD PiP is junk.

Also useful to for video game on one half and Tv on other.
