Quick question: I am building a small HT room (10.5'x17') in the basement (total light control) and I am at the point of painting the walls. Any ideas on shading (light, dark, etc), color (i am partial to maroon (?) with charcoal grey sound diffusers), or type (eggshell, semi-gloss, flat, etc.)....I haven't decided on what color the carpet or ceiling is to be yet but my chairs (3 recliners hooked together with common arm rest between, with cup holders) are black leather and the coffee table is dark stain.....thanks in advance

The Flatter and Darker the better. Less light reflected into room and back on the screen. Prime walls with a dark tinted primer to minimize the number of coats needed.

Don't forget the ceiling, black is best.

I just painted my projector walls yesterday.

After reading many threads on the best "flat black" paint, i had a batch of "black swan" mixed up at Sherwin Williams.

I used their best "flat interior" to mix it from.

Oh, My Gosh.

Took only two coats (looked like heck, and I expected it would, after 1 coat), but after two, it dried to roller mark free perfection.

I highly recommend. FYI, i did not use the standard rollers. I used those new "smaller" rollers, and the roller was white foam. I really think that makes for a smoother rollout for "flat black" and its important.

Anyway, I was not prepared for how much difference it would make. The screen now pops SOOOOOO much more. The effect is now totally immersive. Colors brighter, experience better. I could not be happier after living with a 100inch Carada screen on a white wall for 3 months.

I replaced all the outlets with Decora black, including the speaker plates with Leviton multimedia plates in black.

I also just recently "blackened" my screen wall / side walls and ceiling. I agree the screen now really does "pop." Also - as you say - "The effect is now totally immersive. Colors brighter, experience better." I lived w/ the white walls for 3 years! I used Behr Mouse Ears flat black (and a combination of black cloth)

I also have a Carada screen (106" 1.0 gain screen)

And for the first time - I too used those new "smaller" rollers w/ the white foam! They do really work great!
