In about 15 days or so I will be buying an HDTV. I will be using it as a TV and a computer monitor.

My price range will be no more than $2000 USD (counting shipping and warranty. A 2-3 year warranty will do). I can buy wall mounting items later. I want the warranty due to my friends and a just in case.

I currently enjoy Samsung, Westgate had some nice ones at Bestbuy, some Phillips, some JVC (I really need to see it before deciding with this brand), and Sony (once again have to see it). There are probably other brands I forgot to mention but those are the ones off the top of my head.

I am looking for something between Min 32"-50" Max. I am also looking for 1080i/p because of the extensive gaming I will be doing on the TV.

Often I go 4-8 hours (more on weekends) straight playing games. Games like WoW, Counter-strike Source, Warcraft III: DOTA, CoD2, and other random games.

I am currently worried about Burn-in. Anyone have advice or suggestions? I am leaning more towards LCD due to Plasma burn ins. I am also looking for advice brand wise. I can look at the TVs but this does not give me first hand, long term, experience with these TVs.

Thanks ahead of time for your time and patience.

If you weren't using it as a computer monitor, I would go with plasma. The thing about burn-in is that the issue is way overblown for TV, movies, and most gaming. But I wouldn't use a plasma screen as a computer monitor. It's the only time I would choose an LCD.

I agree with the above. I game on my plasma sometimes 3-4 hours straight, no burn, just a little ir, goes away after watching some regular tv. On plasma you don't have to worry about motion blur but since you are using it as a pc monitor then go with lcd. Also try to get the biggest size you can get with your budget. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the info guys. Ya thats basically what i've gathered. I'd like a Plasma TV because the pictures are great, but since it will primarily be a monitor LCDs appear to be the kings. Especially with the 1920x1080 Res.

I will prob be choosing between these:

Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV LN-T4061F

Philips Ambilight 2 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Westinghouse 47" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

So thanks again mates and hope you enjoy.
