I don’t have a lot of knowledge of this new technology but am in the market for a new HD TV. From what I have read and what will fit my needs I want a Sony 50inch.

Trying to decide between the Sony KDS-50A2020 and the new Sony KDS-50A3000.

I can get the 2020 about $400-$500 hundred dollars cheaper than the 3000, does anyone know what features would make the 3000 worth the extra money over the 2020?

(BTW, does anyone know the release date for the 3000, I really like that new screen with almost no border but that alone is not worth that much more money)

Would appreciate so much any suggestions, tips, ect!! Thanks!

Well, the a3000 has some pretty neat features if youre interested:

*for the 60" set*
Motionflow™ 120Hz anti-blur technology for clearer motion
2 component video (accepts signals up to 1080p)
3 HDMI 1.3a digital audio/video inputs (accepts signals up to 1080p — 24Hz/60Hz)
VGA accepting 1080p

That's why I'm interested in it as a replacement for my 34" XBR960 :)

Yes, i am interested in the 3000 and have considered buying it from Sony Site or from Amazon, but it will cost me about $500. more than the 2020 and does the 2020 have the same features?
What makes the 3000 worth the extra?

And too, I kind of fear buying one of the first of the brand new models because of the unknown bugs, etc.

Plus, I can't seem to get any real idea of when the 3000 would ship. Amazon says in Mid-late August and Sony Site say in september. Does anyone know the true release date of this model?

Okay, I just found out the 3000 would ship from SonySite or Amazon by mid-late August.
But I was hoping could tell me the features the 3000 has or doesn't have over the 2020???

Okay, I just talked to someone and they said the KDS-50A2020 has WAGA technology and the new KDS-50A3000 has BRAVA …
which leaves me about as confused as ever...
Can someone explain the difference to me! ?

Doesn't anyone know the difference in these TV's?

I really want to get this ordered for my hubby's birthday but I am so confused which one to get.
I sure don't want o waste money on a model that is near identical except for screen.

codeman gave them to you

I would wait for the 3000 but that's just my opinion. do you want to watch BD or HD DVD? if so I'd say the A3000. BUT you will need to do some reserch. check out the "high road" thread for the A3000 some good info and that will tell you all the features that are comming.

You could also download the owners manuals for both TV's from sonystyle.com

hell you might be able to find one or two websites that have them both listed and then compare them too.

I'm not knocking ya ;) cause I get impatnt when i get no responses back on something too Hell I'm still waiting (but the tech comes tomorrow) on some things.
if the 3000 has the motion flow and all the other bells mentiond above (the A2020 will NOT HAVE THESE) get that and you will be sorta future proofed (for an extra year or two at least)

Thanks so much 84jeepjohn, for an answer and for being so nice. I talked to a Sony rep on Sony site and they said the 2020 has the motion flow too! And so I kept saying to them, so the only thing better about the 3000 is one more connection and the screen. And they said, yes, except the 3000 has BRAVA and the 2020 has WAGA...
which means nothing to me, I don't understand it and the Sony person just said "better grade" . Well what the heck does that mean, that the 2020 is "low grade" ...yet so many seem to love it.
I AM SO CONFUSED!
We are having DISH change us over to HD but HECK, I think I will just buy the 2020, it will be about $400-$500 cheaper and as you said, who knows about the "kinks" in the 3000 yet.

I didn't know buying a TV would be this much of a pain!!! But when you don't understand all the tech stuff.
And probably whatever decision I make I will later wish I'd gone the other way, that's usually my luck.
This venture has fast gone from FUN to FRUSTRATING!

Well, I went ahead and bought the KDS-50A2020 from Amazon. I have never bought anything big from the net so hope all's okay. They had a great deal on the 2020 and I was just plain sick and tired of trying to figure all the tech stuff out and I'm sure the 2020 will probably have all I'll need. If not, guess I can sell this one and upgrade in a few months.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get it hooked up and the settings correct, etc. :D Oh...and what warrenty to buy! Oh geeze, I'm getting too old for this...oh for the days when you didn't need a degree to buy a TV! ;)

If you decide you want to go with another option other than Sony for your extended warranty, you can check out the extended warranty thread. Some require you to purchase it from 30 days of receiving your set.

Thanks gvg45 for that thread, I was thinking of just going with Sony for the warranty but they don't cover the bulb they told me, so I would like to check out other options.

Thanks 84jeepjohn, I am anxious now to get it and see, it ships tomorrow. Will be the first HD TV we've owned. (as I'm sure you guessed :D )
I want to go and read the entire 2020 owers thread but off to the warranty one first to see if I can figure which one of those to buy. *SIGH*
I hope this TV lasts a while, buying a TV nowadays is enough to wear a person out. :D

If you feel most confident going with Sony, one option is to get the extended warranty with Sony and get the bulb warranty with Mack.

One thing to be aware of with the Mack warranty, you buy the bulb with your cash and they reimburse you. Also the warranty is for the first 3 years of you owning your set. Which means during the first year, you have dual lamp coverage. 1 with your manufacturer (Sony) and the other with Mack.
