Right now, I don't have any provider for cable. I am getting by on OTA, but will make the jump back into the headache pool soon. I live in NJ and have had Comcast for a couple of years before cancelling. I got tired of playing the game of jumping from plan to plan. Years ago, I had Directv and jumped to Comcast when they had the dish buy back offer. I called Verizon about the availability of FIOS and was told that it would be around 6 months (which probably means about a year). I recently saw a brouchure from DishNetwork that seemed to offer a descent channel lineup for a good price. I don't want to start a who's better war, but what do you guys think? Is Directv the move since they've launched sat 10? Should I wait for FIOS, play the Comcast game again, go back to Directv (MPEG4), or give the DishNetwork a shot?

Directv should have D10 active in the next month or two, if you can wait it out that long, sit back and wait for the reports to come in on national MPEG 4 from D* before you jump on a provider. If you can't wait that long, Comcast doesn't require a contract, you could always use them until more info on D10 and national MPEG4 goes live, I'm sure you'll see plenty of feedback online about it.
Personally I wouldn't jump into a sat contract until the verdict is out on D*'s promised HD channels.

I'd call Dish and see what kind of a deal you can get for a Vip622 PVR.
Dish has been the leader in total HD content since the early days (roughly 2001.) Although the other guys are making claim to more HD soon, Dish has been and is now still the leader in total HD channel lineup capacity and is currently making strides to bring us new HD programming in the next couple of months.
Dish MPEG4 hardware has been on the market now for over a year and has a good track record, the Vip622 is one hell of a receiver.
Dish is launching another satellite late this fall and another in mid-08. Dish will continue to be the leader in national HD programming content delivery.
You can go with promises or go with a proven track record...I dumped cable in 2001 and have never regretted going with Dish.
