Went into my local BB today (just got back from Puerto Rico), saw literally 100 copies of 300 on blu-ray and none on HD-DVD. Asked the lady and she said they can't keep the HD-DVD version in stock, sold over 300 copies there since release and they're backordered another 40 copies for when the next shipment comes. Told me they've hardly sold any of the Blu-Ray versions..

Asked about Hot Fuzz and was told that's sold out too but I can get on the waiting list..

I ordered them on Amazon like usual but man I wanted them today..

Best Buy is so stupid. They could be banking big time if they actually had HD movies in stock. It is crystal clear that people WANT to buy HD DVD movies. Instead, they order more Blu-ray movies and they don't sell as well. We always hear these stories about Blu-ray and how well they are selling. Well, as it seems they are not selling well and HD DVD can outsell Blu-ray if titles were in stock. Numerous people on this forum are having the same problems. I guess Best Buy simply doesn't want to face the fact that HD DVD is the peoples choice.

In columbus ohio I went to BB, CC and walmart and could not find Shaun any where. Only BB had Bourne.

At Target the 300 HD DVD was 34.99 and the Blu ray was 24.99 I wish I had my camera. And they say Blu ray sells more a $10 difference I guess so.

I couldn't find Hot Fuzz anywhere. Checked Walmart, Target, CC, etc and all sold out.

The Wal-Mart (Wichita Falls, TX) I went to didn't even bother to carry 300 on HD DVD or Blu-ray, and was completly sold out of Shooter on HD DVD. They did have (one copy) of Hot Fuzz on HD DVD. I read that Wal-Mart supports both formats "equally", but this particular one carries more Blu-ray than HD DVD.

Anecdotal evidence is interesting and does provide some buying habits in small locales, but you cannot count on it being a trend everywhere (as much as well all hope!).

I ordered them on Amazon like usual but man I wanted them today..I don't know if this so-called 2-1 sales ratio of '300' is just another BDA spin. ;)

I went to Super Walmart on FM1960 today to see if they had 'Hot Fuzz' for $25.95 as a member indicated in another thread.
The 'Hot Fuzz' placeholder was completely empty, and the price was confirmed as $25.95.
As I turned the corner of the DVD isle I noticed that they had on their new releases section displayed on their main isle, HD DVD and Blu-rays of '300'; but the 300 BDs were stocked full on the isle at merely $22.99, the HD DVD placeholder with a price of $29.99 was completely empty. :D

The Blu-ray spin, of course, will be they ordered 50 copies of the Blu-ray version and 3 of the HD DVD one. So of course it would be sold out. :p

I find it ironic you mention blu-ray spin when the post in question is spin in and of itself....anything anecdotal is spin unless you are saying how many units were sold. A few stores being sold out on one format or the other isn't an indicator of overall sales but rather isolated reports on BOTH sides. The only format numbers I've seen are 65/35 in favor of Blu-Ray for 300 from USA Today until there are others this is the only formal stat to go on...which I'm sure you'll say is BDA spin

Any mention on how many 300 returns they got because folks kept getting lockups because it's a g5n Combo disc?

;)

(I know I'm responsible for at least one, and later on this week probably another..)

Best Buy here must of receive a few extra orders of Hot Fuzz on HD DVD. They got like 20 copies of Hot Fuzz. No 300 in sight for either format. Hot Fuzz and 300 was also sold out at Target. Interestingly Borders had 2 copies of 300 on both formats, they were locked behind the glass where TV shows are kept so I couldn't see the price.

Even if that were true, is it something for the BDA to be proud of? They should be devastated! Why, you say? They have 4 times the amount of HD players that HD DVD has, yet they could only manage a less than 2-1 sale ratio (65-35 margin is not 2-1 :D)? Pathetic! :p

All the HD DVD people have to sell is 500,000 more players, and the BDA is screwed. :D

Fry's here in LA has a total of 18 copies (HOT FUZZ) for the three stores.

Basically 300 and HOT FUZZ HD DVD are not stocked enough to meet higher than usual demand.

HOT FUZZ is a bitch.

Yeah, and how many stores under-ordered the HD DVD version and over ordered the Blu-Ray one? Apparently WAY too many stores as I see the BR version everywhere.

WRONG. They have close to 5 Million Blu-Ray players sold. They should be at a 10:1 advantage by now...yet....there not. :p

I was at BB today and they had about 8 copies each of Hot Fuzz and 300. In fact they had tons of HD DVDs, way more than the last time I was there. Too bad they are kinda pricey, I was tempted to buy some.

Didn't bother looking at the BR section, but it takes up equal shelf space.

5 million? Isn't that worldwide? And isn't the '300' 2:1 sales ratio in the US only?

And only about 40% of PS3 owners know what a blu-ray player is. So this whole 'blu-ray should have a 4:1 advantage!' is really stupid. I can only see this as bad news for HD DVD since people will become more aware of the high def format.

Oh yeah, I went into CC and BB today and I literally saw thousands of 300 & Hot Fuzz HD DVD's. I just had to share it with AVS since it must mean something.

5 million? Isn't that worldwide? And isn't the '300' 2:1 sales ratio in the US only? Yes (although more like 4.1 million worldwide). Using worldwide for one and US or NA for the other is just one way to try to deceive people. Interesting how feigned ignorance has become so common around here. Almost like people think if they fake that they aren't smart enough to figure this stuff out (like that both PS3s and Toshiba laptops should have lower attach rates than standalones), that it somehow helps their chosen format. Sad what this place has become with respect to this, IMO.

Funny you say that because at my local Target, very close to my house they had $34.99 300 HD DVD and the box was EMPTY..and the $24.99 was packed with 300..

I think I took a picture.. I gotta find it.. it's like 6 rows by 3 disc columns on both sides and the funniest thing was that out of 18 spots on HD DVD side they 6-7 with 1 or 2 titles and only 1 was empty on BD (can't remember what movie) while others were packed. I remember laughing at Pirates as they had most of those..

Okay, so when you say it's not fair.

How many 300 HD DVDs and BD version are sold worldwide?

Don't you think it looks even more ridiculous for Blu-Ray when you just limit it to US if 4.48 million (that's the last number) of PS3 sold worldwide (they say they shipped 6 million) against (as you keep correcting me) 480k HD DVD players worldwide.

Here's some PS3 sales numbers:

Japan 1,010,492 as of July 15, 2007[31]
North America 1,498,500 as of July 23, 2007[32]
PAL territories 1,200,000 as of July 13, 2007[33]

Total 4.28 million as of June 30, 2007[34]

On June 22, 2007, a Microsoft representative told CNET UK that the drive has sold over 155,000 units in the United States

As of 18 April 2007, (on the first “birthday” of HD DVD),[23] the HD DVD camp reported that they had sold 100,000 dedicated HD DVD units in the U.S. alone, (that is standalone players only, it does not include any computers with HD DVD drives

So let's say that 300k HD DVD players in the States, so this is where I said that it is highly unlikely that worldwide there's only ~500k HD DVD, there's definitely more reason to conclude that 1 million is more believable number, but we won't go into that.

so US only: 1.5 million PS3s (no standalones included) against 300k HD DVD players. This is 5:1 ratio in States alone.

And the last time someone asked me, a format standard is won on the worldwide level, not just the States. But it is definitely more favorable for Blu-Ray to just deal with States because this is the last place where Blu-Ray has advantage in numbers of HD DVD. The rest of the world is already showing their choice.

I bought Hot Fuzz today at Walmart in Green Bay, WI and the inept staff affixed the plastic theft protection thing right over the dvd side of the combo disc. I pulled it off and it left a sticky mark. While I'm not sure if I'll ever play the dvd side, I am considering taking it back on general principle.

I used to spend $250 a month buying movies hd dvd, no more. It is the worst store in the world. I would go every monday on my computer to best buy . com, find the movies in the westwood california store, drive there so excited arrive, spend half hour trying to find the new releases which kept moving to different aisles every time , never in same place. finally to find the aisle, movie sold out. Then wait another 10 minutes get a blue shirt to check on the computer, find the movie is sold out. I complain to manager that every week movie is sold out on hd dvd, can you order more, they say they get what they get. It is horrible, two years from now my prediction best buy will be wiped out. They have the most horrible customer service in the world.

i shop at Lazer Blazer, in West Los angeles, and have spend thousands of dollars there. They have every hd movie in stock every tuesday without fail every tuesday, including mega sellars like Matrix, 300. They have every single title out. Never been sold out. Never any lines there, i am out in 6 minutes. Staff very pleasant.

i will never buy an hd dvd movies from best buy ever. They don't have a clue. Wait till the recession hits.

I was at BB today and somebody was looking for 300 on HD. Still not in stock. She asked an employee if they had it and he came over with the Blu-ray version. Remarkable that a week later they still do not have it in stock. The customer said she was going to try Circuit City to see if they had it in stock. BB and HD are definitely losing sales because of things like this. Not everybody wants to order online.

All that said, internationally Blu-ray enjoys a wider margin of close to 3:1 over HD DVD. In its report of first-half home entertainment sales internationally, research concern Media Control GfK International shows consumers outside the U.S. bought about 650,000 units of Blu-ray software, valued at more than $23 million, with HD DVD selling just around 240,000 units valued at about $8.5 million in the first half.

The local Fry's next to my work has been sold out of the HD DVD version of 300 since launch and has had Blu-rays of the movie in stock since the the title came out.

It really makes me wonder if the 2-1 sales ration was because there weren't enough ordered from the stores. For instance what if the stores ordered 100 HD DVD units and 200 Blu-ray units. Is that the 2-1 sales ration that the Blu-ray association is clamouring about? Basically I think the numbers are still off and may be missing the truth.

Also, many of the early adopters have both formats, like me. WHile I prefer HD DVD, I can easily see some people breaking down and opting for the Blu-ray version since they can't find the HD DVD version (since it's under ordered at retail).

Just another perspective.
