View Full Version : Samsung DLP <<Green Tint Problem>>
AngryPug 08-06-07, 08:34 PM Hey guys,
I'm in a bit of a bind, I had my HLS466w in for repairs for a collapsed light box (thanks for the other thread!) and when I got it back from service, every image on the screen, no matter what input and including the on screen menu's have a green tint to them. Baby blue colors look teal. The menu's which used to be a slate color now have a major green wash to them and the Simpsons of all things look like puke. I called the service guys back and none of them see the problem, they've tried to convince me that "it's always been like that." What I'm hoping for is if anyone would be willing to take some good shots of their menus and post them so I can use them as reference?
I went to the store and the only models left in stock that had the old DLP menu system were plasmas, and I didn't feel right using that as a ref, cause they will never get past the fact that it's not the same tv.
If anyone can help me out, that would be greatly appreciated. I need a shot or 2 of the main menu (where you select inputs and such) and if possible, when the tv's input is on hdmi or component, and has no image going to it (no blue) if you hit up or down on the channels it gives you a slate menu that says that's not available under these settings or something to that effect (goin off memory till I get the set back.) I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone can help that'd be great! I will post pictures of the problem tomorrow when I get the set back. thanks!

***UPDATE***
more pics, been on the phone the last 2 days, and the store that I have the warranty with refuses to take the tv in for repair, telling me that since it's over 27 inches I have to go through in home service... and in home service is being less than helpful, saying since the tech says the tv has no problems, thats what they have to go by. they will not accept emails with pics to show them that the repair was not done correctly. Basically telling me that they are the experts... doesn't take an expert to know this isn't right.
At least the folks at the store looked at the pics and said, "yep! it's green" sorry we can't help you....
HoustonPerson 08-10-07, 05:14 AM Um, you have not said where you are going for Service? If you are going to 800 Samsung, they should be doing in home service at no cost. Yes they can be "painfully" slow, and it could take as long as 6 months to resolve the issue; which could include replacing the TV with a new one. Don't settle for "refurbished" that is some one elses problem, they could not fix. One of the tricks I have learned, is that the "in field service tech" will falsify the paperwork. They do this so they can get paid, and could care less about solving your problem. In order to solve that problem, either "they" or "you" will have to complete the paperwork clearly identifying and stating what the problem is "on the the service ticket". THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU SIGN IT. Otherwise refuse to sign it. It must state on the ticket the problem is not solved. If this is not done then you only choice is to send a "demand letter to Samsung" clearly stating the facts.
Both falsifying paperwork and using “used” parts (light engines and power control blocks) out of other peoples TV’s is common practice in Houston’s Samsung service. I do not know if this happens in other parts of the country or not.
AngryPug 08-10-07, 11:27 AM I'm dealing with Best Buy in home service, I didn't want to name them cause I didn't know what the rules were on here. When the 1st repair facility dropped off the tv, we wrote out clearly on the work order "Unsatisfactory Repair, repair not completed"
When I called Best Buy, the company filed and closed the ticket as if there was no problem found, after they told me they were going to colse it as not repaired...I figured they would lie, but I have my copy which states differently.
I am now awaiting the 3rd Repair facility to contact me to take a look at the tv, but I'm also going to contact the company Samsung recomends to evaluate the tv, because Best buy is trying to say that the second repair attempt, is not vaild, because "no problems were found" which is a lie. I had the service manager at the store call them yesterday and he stated that he can clearlly see the problem, so at least that is updated in their files and contradicts the closed ticket. what a mess...
msidell 10-11-07, 09:56 AM I have a Samsung HLT 5087SX that just started doing the green tint, too. It's especially noticeable in dark scenes.
Were you able to get your set fixed? I'd be interested to know what the problem ended up being, so that I can clue in the tech, should he ever arrive.
AngryPug 10-15-07, 03:23 PM Well, after going through another shop, it turned out that the new light engine had not be dialed in, there are some color settings that needed to be input, and they had not been. After the tech did that, it worked, and the color was perfect, I say was, because about 4 weeks later, when I went to go watch a dvd on a different input, the green tint was back. The techs are confused cause the settings they adjusted should have been universal to all inputs. But it seems only my HDMI was fixed.
I had em come out again and now they have 3 different tvs in the shop with the same problem. All Samsung. so it's a waiting game again.
AngryPug 11-25-07, 09:44 AM Well it only took a few months... but after hounding and hounding, Best Buy has replaced the TV. The service shop was not able to figure out why the other 2 inputs would not take the settings and recommended that Best Buy replace it.
I've noticed a few more posts on the forum about the green tint problem since I made my 1st post. All I can say is stay at it, hound them and hound them till it gets resolved. After 2 shops that did less than stellar jobs, I was lucky enough to get a great shop that knew what they were doing and had the experience and patience to see this through. Best of luck.
