I've got a Panasonic 65" CRT HDTV that looks absolutely terrible. I've done the basic convergence and played with the colors a bit ( I don't have a calibration disc yet ) but this TV seems to be beyond those fixes.
The TV sits in an enclosed built in located in Tahoe City CA. I don't know the exact model # but it is from 2002 I think. It is a vacation home so I can't just go and check.
The color on the TV is all messed up. Colors are not vibrant. Whites are not white. Blacks are more grey than black. I know this could probably be fixed with calibration but...
Most annoying is the terrible picture quality of the set. Nothing is sharp and colors bleed through (and not the greens and reds and blues on text that can be fixed with convergence). Sharpness settings don't really help. I have never seen a TV set that was so hard to watch.
Source material is 480i from Satelite and 480p from DVD. I have no HD up there yet.
Is there anything I can try to save this TV? I was considering just replacing it with a new digital set but I read on here that the CRT TVs can look fantastic. Plus, it is built in to a custom cabinet. What could be wrong with mine? It seems like it has always looked this crappy for as long as I can remember.
