A little over a year ago I got the MPEG-4/5LNB dish with HD (non-Tivo/non-DVR) receiver. In general, the HD on my locals and ESPN has been okay, although the network HDs often pixelize to the point of unwatchability during sports (though ESPN almost never does). However, HD on MLB Extra Innings broadcasts has been absolutely horrible. More often than not I get no picture and the "771 -- searching for satellite signal" message. Also, the upper 290 channels (PBS Sprout, etc., which my kids watch) often go out. None of this happens on my other TVs w/standard receivers. In other words, the reception problem is limited to the HD receiver/TV. Had a tech come out finally, and he fiddled with it, but no improvement, at least as to the HD issue.
Anyone experienced this and, more importantly, have a solution?
I've been with DirecTV for 12+ years and am ready to pull the plug over this. Essentially, I can't seem to get the only HD that I really want, so cable can't be worse.

What kind of signal levels are you seeing for the channels in question?

>80 as far as I'm aware. The first time I called DTV about this, the rep had me read the signal strength #s to her, and that didn't appear to be the problem. As I recall, they read in a grid about 5 #s across and 4 or 5 down. The middle column #s were low but the two left and two right columns were fine. She said that the middle column #s, for some reason, didn't matter. I know, not exactly a high tech explanation on my part, but that's how I remember it.
Plus, if signal strength were the problem, then wouldn't I see this issue arise on my other receivers/TVs (which I don't)?

Depends, could have a bad output on the dish, something wrong with the cabling between the dish and the H20 and/or the B-Band converter inline between the dish and the H20 could be causing the problem also.
Wouldn't hurt to remove the B-Band converter and see if it has any impact or try the receiver at a different location in the house to see if it makes any difference, if the problem still exists, try to get them to replace the receiver next.

Where would the B-Band converter be located?

Inline between the dish and the H20, usually attached directly to the sat input receiver then the line from the dish is attached to it.

have you fixed your problem? If so what was your problem?
I too am having the samething with my Local HD channels from Directv. It's so bad that i am ready to cancell HD service.
My problem seems to be only on the Detroit Local HD channels.

Having problems here in Tampa area locals via Directv. Stuttering, pixalation, picture freezing, etc. on all local HD channels. Have been for some time (since D11 went up).
