I posted this over in the screen forum but I'm not getting a lot of activity so I thought Id try here.
Does anyone have problems using high-gloss finished speakers behind and AT screen? I considering a few different brands and dont want the pj to light them up as well. FWIW, the room is totally light controlled.
Just throw a piece of black speaker cloth over the speaker you won't get any reflection. usually you won't anyway unless there is silver or gold on it that can show and assuming your back wall is black as well. But the cloth will take care of anything if there is anyting, test with and without.

I removed the grills on my speakers, and the front faces of the naked speaker are fairly reflective and the drivers have some shiny silver parts. You can't see them, or anything else for that matter that is behind the screen (SMX). I can't imagine that the finish on the speakers could make any difference. Having said that, I would go with a black finish.

Thanks for the replies. I was considering doing a setup like Rubin did (with lights down lighting the speakers behind the smx screen) and using something like the new sierras. With the piano finish, they are really reflective and I didnt want that ruin the presentation or see them during the movie.
The wall behind the speakers will be entirely black so I wont have that issue. I was planning on taking the grills off (regardless of which mfr I end up with) so I will need to be considerate of the reflections.
I too thought of doing like Ruben, great effect there, but you really have to make the whole framework of your faux wall and back wall NICE, LOL for that to work and install your lighting within the faux wall area before everything is done, and Ruben pulled that rabbit out of his has after I had built my faux walls insides in a more cludged manor. and I had not put lighting INSIDE there, I actually want to put a mock up of Predator or perhaps my Jack Sparrow back there. LOL
I do have lighting that lights the screen from without though like this

I have inwalls behind my AT screen. The drivers are pretty shiny, but they don't show through at all.
McCall-- you just gave me a great idea for my next theatre (Alien behind screen), which I hope will have more room behind the screen wall.

The idea is also done in the IMAX theaters. I still have plenty of time to do this in my room so its just a matter of building it. It sounds like it wont be an issue
