Ok, my 12-ish seat theater is up and running and tonight some other theater owners are comming over for it's public debut of sorts.

Is there one HD-DVD title I can / should use to show this off. 9' screen, 1080p front projection, A1 player.

Thanks in advance

Chronicles of Riddick is a good sci-fi action flick with excellent PQ and AQ

Blood Diamond or Letters from Iwo Jima are good choices, too.

They've probably already seen The Bourne Identity . I'm not sure if National Geographic's "Relentless Enemies" would be entertainment for folks expecting "action".

Hot Fuzz aye??? Lots of good HD shots in that one? It is not one I had considered even though I'd bank, I'll love that movie. :)

I was really impressed with "The Mummy" - some of the outdoor shots are amazing.

It's a great movie and It's also gorgeous in HD. This was one of those movies that was filmed as clear and sharp as possible, not much "artistic grain etc.." added (not bashing that style, I'm a big fan of artistic intent) basically it lends itself to demo material for sharp clean gorgeous picture. And did I mention that's in Tier 0 on the tier thread?

Since I don't know the makeup of your audience I am going to recommend I-Max Blue Planet or Planet Earth. Happy Feet is another good one for neutral audience.

John, if you haven't already done so add Butt Kickers to your seating (risers). They make an amazing difference in any movie. I have 6 Berklines and 2 risers, 1 being only 3" thick to hold a 1050W butt kicker. The 2100W amp will power 2 Butt Kickers, you can use 1 per row in a riser platform. Simply amazing experience.

John,

What type of audience are you talking? Adults? Kids?

Adults only - Black Snake moan is an impressive HD showing as is The Matrix
Kids - Obviously - Happy Feet or Ant Bully

I think Hot Fuzz it is... :)

Interesting about the Butt Kickers. I got Qty two 15" subs each with a 500watt Oaudio amp in it and I run em hot. It seems hella fine already on the sensoround front. Not so sure I need anything extra.

This theater is sound proofed and sound treated as it was a professional recording studio in it's former life. I run pretty damn loud in it.

Any of the Matrix movies, Superman Returns, Batman Begins, Hot Fuzz, King Kong, 300 or the Bourne movies would be my picks.

For the kids: Happy Feet, hands down. Amazing PQ with DolbyTrueHD = Win.

Another vote for Hot Fuzz; nothing like a little girl on girl.

No kids. Just three other dedicated home theater owners. Males ages 28 - 60. :)

Nobody seemed interested in any of the Matrix movies when I suggested it to them.

300 seems a no brainer, but I am reading that many people just didn' t like the movie all to much.

Hot Fuzz does seem the sort of quirky thing, if the PQ is steller to set quite a jovial mood. You know I will be taking critiques on my theater and such a movie just may ease the comments some. :)

Definately 300 or Batman Begins... Superman Returns is right up there in my opinion as well... To really wow them with HD go planet earth but, to get the full Theater experience go with one of the first 2 I stated...

With the audience you stated... I would add to Black Snake Moan (suggested already)

The Fast and The Furious and The Departed. These have real good PQ and I was pretty impressed with the SQ on Fast.

Fast and the Furious has the goods for sure, My wife and I ran that one over the weeked

I am pretty sure Hot Fuzz is going to be the one, as long as I can find stock on my way home from work tonight.

Training Day is a great movie and in the top 20 in terms of PQ. Very sharp clear pic with a number of those "wow 3D" moments.

Subs are no match for your seating actually moving with a Butt Kicker ... trust me, esp. with TrueHD tracks. Tremendous LFE tracks.

You should watch HOT FUZZ then flip over to the dvd side to show the massive improvement in the PQ.

I think it's going to be Hot Fuzz as long as my local retailers have it in stock.

Two comedies. Should or at least could prove interesting.

Has Blood Diamond been sugested?

My pics

Children of Men ( nice story very good PQ ) --- PQ
Blood Diamond ( never would have guessed it also a action movie ) -- Sound
Hott Fuzz ( very funny, Excellent PQ )-- PQ
Shooter ( Good PQ )
Batman Begins ( Great for Sound And PQ )
Fearless ( Sound and PQ ) more fighting, knifes, swords than Guns, explosins.
Letters from Iwo Jima ( Great for SQ, and PQ ) the true HD track in bananas
Fast and Furious Toyko Drift ( Great for SQ and PQ )

Just in case you have trouble finding some of the other movies sugested.

If you have a couple extra hundred bucks snatch up a HD-A2 and or check my sig to get the latest firmware updates for you player. You can DL the iso and burn with nero. So the thing can go on without a hitch.

Hot Fuzz has fantastic picture and sound, no doubt about it. But it's not everyone's cup of tea (theatrically speaking). So, I'll vote for SHOOTER. Excellent picture quality and great movie too! Particularly if it's all guys and/or chicks that dig action flicks.

In no particular order:

Bourne Identity - serious action flick
Hott Fuzz - Comedy
300 - action, tells the story of 300 men whose lives saved democracy
Batman Begins - action
Planet Earth - documentary. looks great, but can put you to sleep

The theater is new, the A1 has been my player for the past year. It has all current updates on it. I don't plan on changing it anytime soon.

I now use a 360AO for my living room setup.

Hot Fuzz wins here. :)

A little Alcohol, a little dinner, a couple of belly laugh'n movies. Seems a good fit here. You all know how those theater owner types can be. I spent way way less than any of these guys comming over on my setup, so I am a little nervous. I know I love the way my theater came out, but if these guys have any harsh critiques it will get back to the snobby retailers, we all know and deal with the same people here locally. :)

The delivery of that line is perfect. What a great movie, the last 30 minutes are so are about as good as it gets. I can't wait to watch through it again.

You might want to have a backup in case your A1 chokes :)

:) Well, I have complete confidence in my A1. It has been excellent and very solid for me with a ton of hard use. Of course it handles all my SD-DVD viewing as well.

Well the night didn't go down exactly as predicted. Late in the evening only 30min of Hot Fuzz was screened to show off HD-DVD.

The group elected to see 300 on Blu-ray as the main feature. After that they wanted to see some SD-DVD so we screened a dozen selected clips from Jurassic Park III. Then Hot Fuzz was previewed to show just how close you could get to the screen without any SDE or pixelation when running HD-DVD -vs- SD-DVD.

Pics of my theater, I still need to do that. The group offered up some fantastic ideas for making my walls and ceiling more asthetically pleasing. My theater walls and ceiling are rubber, well not really rubber, it is this ultra high tech black colored sheet material used by the auto undustry to isolate the passenger compartment in more luxury lined cars. The trick with this stuff is as long as there is space behind it you get virtually no reflection of sound as the vibration cancels itself out. I have eliminated all right angles in the room using this stuff.

Their idea was to trim it in wood, all the seams, then use movie posters sparingly in the middle of each section. Seems a perfect idea. I was going to hang some fabrick, but they were so impressed with the sound of my room, they said they would alter the sound of my room from what it is now as little as poissible.

I got the BD myself and he's going to lend me his HD so that we can do a side-by-side comparison of both formats on my system. And it's an excuse to the missus for watching 300 back to back... :D

I don't think so. Maybe. I really don't much about the stuff. I picked it up like 12+ years ago. I know it works wonders though. Sound proofing and sound treating in one shot.
