View Full Version : How much should x.v.color / hdmi 1.3 matter?
barth2k 08-07-07, 12:48 PM there's a fantastic deal going right now for the samsung HL-T6756 at a certain store. I'm almost set on getting it, but the Mits WD-65734 is giving me pause. It but has x.v.color (xvYCC) and hdmi 1.3 (vs 1.2 for the sammy) The Mits however costs $600 more at said store (while giving up 2", obviously). I could find a lower price for the Mits elsewhere but the warranty and return policy would not be as good.
so my question is how much should x.v.color / hdmi 1.3 matter? I know x.v.color may take a while (if ever) to come to hd/blu ray. But does just having it mean the display have better colors, even while being fed a regular ATSC source, b/c it's doing a sort of color upconversion? Or are all displays capable of showing the entire color gamut and it's only the interface that's the limiting factor.
also, any chance that a display can be upgraded for x.v.color later on?
BigMacK1311 08-07-07, 03:08 PM odd, at my certain large warehouse it is only 90 dollars more (sorry for the price talk). I would say the 6-color wheel is nice, but some are having issues with that one (it's closer to a 65733 as it lacks perfect tint and dark detailer, two great options)
Couldn't see a damned thing unless viewed dead straight on. Sonys were far better in this regard.

If you are going to keep this tv 5-6 years or more, i would go with the one i like the best, the one with the best PQ etc.
how much should x.v.color/hdmi 1.3 matter? well right now not much, but 2-3 + years from now may matter a lot, so again, how long you want this tv to last, has a lot to do with it. would be better to pay $600.00 more now than to buy a new tv again in 1-2-3 + years. this is the way i look at it.
Squawks 08-08-07, 09:21 PM xv color I don't see as a substantial upgrade or feature but it is a benefit nonetheless. I don't believe it will be anything dramatic.
HDMI 1.3, however, sounds promising. The best feature personally about 1.3 is the ability to have devices communicate with each other. For example, one button on the remote will change TV input to Blu-Ray player input, turn on Blu-Ray player, turn on receiver, and set receiver to proper input. That's sweet, excluding the need to use 3 separate remotes. Yes, we're all lazy bastards inside.

3 years from now a 50-60 inch Tv will probably only cost about $900. I say go for what ever fits the bill now for the lowest amount.
By the way there are no deep color sources now and there probably won’t be any for quite some time. Cable, Satellite, Over the air HD, next gen DVD players don’t even allow for it in their specs right now. It just isn’t going to happen anytime soon!

For $80 your harmony remote will do that! Save the money buy an HDMI 1.1 TV now. You won’t be able to see the benefit of HDMI 1.3 for a very long time.
X.V. color is rumored to cause people to lose bowel control it is so awesome. You may or may not want to wait for it based on that info.
