I am considering re-arranging my setup. The house has vaulted ceiling and the living room shares the space of the kitchen. The way the room is setup is my TV on the large wall with the subwoofer (SVS PB12 +) in the front left corner and the mains (Def. Tech Mythos) on each side of the TV

The rears are angled inwards behind the listening position. The way the area is setup it creates a 14x14 box. I am somewhat close to the TV (8 feet) and the surrounds are currently about 1 1/2 feet behind me.

Would it make sense to move the sub towards the back behind the listening area and move the surrounds on the sides of the listening position pointing in.

Can't see your layout, are you saying you have a 5.1 system and the rears are behind you?
or is it a 7.1 system.
if it is a 5.1 then yes move them to the sides facing the seating, as to the best spot for the sub best thing is to try it in various spots around the room to get the optimum position.

For only onne pair of surrounds, put them to the sides of the seating area.
As for the sub, if you have a SPL meter(Radio shack meter), then put the sub at the main seating location. Then run pink noise thru the sub, while you walk around the room with the SPL meter. The location where the meter has its highest reading is where the sub should go.
