View Full Version : Is The Remastered StarTrek HD or not?? MeatChicken 08-07-07, 04:12 PM Is the Remastered StarTrek being broadcast in 4:3 HD, or cleaned up SD.. I get different answers ... My Local is on WNBC-TV 4 in NYC... Star56 08-07-07, 04:15 PM It is broadcast in SD. Xbox Live offers HD versions of some episodes. GeorgeLV 08-07-07, 05:34 PM It is not broadcast in HD anywhere, yet. However, many of the remastered episodes can be downloaded in 720p HD on Xbox Live Marketplace now. Season one will also be released on the HD DVD combo format on November 10 for a 217.99 MSRP. This is widely rumored to be a paid timed exclusive so it is also likely a Blu-ray release will be available the following quarter. It indicates which eps are HD (all are not). I saw one earlier this summer that looked great. Another a few weeks later, not so great. I do believe every ep in the upcoming boxset is HD, however. jtbell 08-08-07, 01:46 AM Is the Remastered StarTrek being broadcast in 4:3 HD, or cleaned up SD.. It was remastered in HD, then downconverted to SD for distribution to the stations that are carrying it, because the Pathfire system that stations generally use for syndicated material is still SD. The stations then broadcast it as SD analog, and as either SD digital or HD (upconverted) digital depending on whether their digital signal is SD or HD. I can watch it OTA on two different stations: WJZY in Charlotte and WYCW in Asheville. Both stations upconvert to HD. There is a noticeable difference in PQ between the two, presumably because they use different hardware/software for the upconversion. WYCW is sharper, but I usually prefer the color on WJZY. |
