Hi, Starting project converting garage to home theater and need advice.

Room size is 22 ft by 14 ft. ceiling is 8 ft high and am hoping to use a DLP (maybe a HD80) projector mounted on ceiling and maybe a 120 inch screen. First row of seats will be about 12 ft 6 inches. The ceiling is open so I can run cables to the projector from a wall that is set back about two feet from the side walls where the equipment will be located. and can be ventilated well with access from a storage area. Am planning on using a 5.1 sound system (not purchased yet).
There is a ceiling outlet 14 feet back from the front of the room. Is this too close to get a good projection on a 120 ingh screen from that distance or should I locate it further back? It is still easy to move the outlet at this point.
I am a newbie at this and would appreciate any comments or advice.
Thanks,

Jim

Are you talking 120" wide 2.35:1 aspect screen or a 120" diagonal 16:9 screen?
12.6 is not too close even for the 120" wide screen depending on the projector and type of screen you use.
As for whether you can throw the size picture you want at the distance you want that will depend on the projector as well.
Have you given thought to the soundproofing or acoustics, [two different things] of the room yet? if not NOW is the time.
If you have not already been reading here I suggest you spend several weeks minimum reading everything you can in all the relevant threads before you do any more on your theater plans.

Thanks for the reply
Looking at 2.35:1 aspect with a fixed screen.
Been looking at a HD80 DLP projector. I have some soundproofing panels (about 1.5 inches thick) obtained from a bank that used them for soundproofing their machinery from the rest of the bank. I have started reading everything I can on the threads. Thanks, again for the info.
