I just received my oppo 980, and while I was testing it, I was running it through my samsung 4752 47" hd-ready rear projection TV. I then took the old dvd/vcr combo out and moved all the cables around and now I can't select HDMI on my samsung tv. This TV only selects inputs that it detects are connected. When I cycle through the sources, the HDMI does not come up now as a possible source. I tried changing the resolution on the oppo down to the minimum in case I had accidently changed it to 1080p or something like that - my TV takes a max of 1080i. I'm thinking maybe the cable is wonky or any other ideas?

Thanks!

Try another HDMI cable or disconnecting your current cables completely and reconnecting them back to your display and DVD player.

Try turning Off your display and DVD player. Turn On the DVD player then the display.

Thanks Neuro - that helped a lot. I pulled all connections, unplugged the dvd for a while, hooked up the hdmi only, turned on the dvd, and then finally turned the tv back on. It worked! :)

Then, while playing a dvd, I started hooking everything back up. When I got to hooking up the input for component one, the audio quit on the tv - pulled it and it came back. For some reason the tv didn't like having hdmi and component one both hooked up.

Some displays have a priority for shared inputs. An example of this would be a display that uses "Input 1" for both "Component 1" and "HDMI 1". Depending on the design of this display, component can take president over HDMI (backwards, yes).
