david.p 08-08-07, 09:26 AM Disturbia currently is in my queue with a "Long Wait" for the HD DVD. I haven't received that e-mail (yet?).
Kerflop 08-08-07, 09:32 AM I just watched it last night and it will be back in the mail today. Great looking movie...

Same here. Great movie, PQ, and AQ. Love the 6.1 DTS. I'm going to have to buy this film. Mailing it back to Netflix today, different area though.
eghill1125 08-08-07, 09:34 AM I received the HD DVD yesterday from Netflix, but I had family problems last night and will have to watch it tonight. I am sorry. I promise it will be in the mail going back tomorrow. :)
Hmmm...no email, yet. Is on my queue as a "short wait".
Watched my Netflix copy last night as well... will be back in the mail today.
MattGuyOR 08-08-07, 01:10 PM Same here, have gotten lucky on the new releases lately. This one was great. Got 300 and Hot Fuzz last week, too.

Same for me.
Chris West 08-08-07, 01:43 PM all depends on what plan you got, got a 1 per time cheapy you'll get screwed and like me last week it took 4 days to say they got my movie back instead of the usual next day.
It's a scam they pull to keep your que down , they do not want you to have 2-3 a week on a $8.99 plan!
I'm part of the class action lawsuit from the early day's and have not heard back on it for a yr or so.
I just added this to my Queue with no problem. Does say long wait.

So, what is the cheapest plan where they don't scam you? I haven't signed up yet, but I'm seriously thinking about it.
You mean you are actually getting HD movies from netflix? I have about 10 discs I have been waiting a long time to watch and they are still listed as long wait. Netflix needs to go out and buy some more copies. The last high def title I got from them was the good shepard, and only because everyone else had already rented it.
I'm still waiting on 300 hd, blood diamond hd (how long has this film been out now?), shooter hd, zodiac, reno 911 miami and the astronaut farmer.

It's called throttling. If you send your movies back a day or so after getting them, they throttle you. Movies start taking a day or two longer to get there and a day or two longer to arrive and you don't get the new releases.
It's in their user argreement now, so they admit they do it so they can't be sued again.
ObscureCaucasian 08-08-07, 02:41 PM I added Shooter to my queue last night, and it was listed as "long wait"
It shipped out today.

GREAT!! Drive up the prices for the rest of us while you get a $2 refund and the lawyers get $13 million. Nice going.
The the OP, I got TMNT and Disturbia today. I haven't had any more of a problem getting HD discs of either format than I have had from any other SD movie that would draw a particularly high demand

Okay, so I'm still confused. What are the "steps" I should go through so I won't get "scammed" or "throttled". Do plans matter at all? How long do I wait before sending them back? etc.
slcsnkman 08-08-07, 02:47 PM My thought was that they were out of the HD DVD's so if you guys got them them im cool with waiting. just the "no longer in our rental library" threw me off.
thanks

I have the 3 at a time plan. I send movies back as soon as I watch them (sometimes this is the day after they are received) and average about 12 movies a month. I frequently receive HD DVDs on release day and I've never felt as though Netflix was "throttling" my account.
ricwhite 08-08-07, 03:12 PM I found this information on the Netflix FAQs:
We reserve the right to process orders and otherwise allocate and ship DVDs among our subscribers in any manner that we, in our sole and absolute discretion, determine.
In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we may utilize many different factors, including without limitation, the number and type of DVDs you rent through our service, the subscription plan you select, as well as other uses of our service by you. For example, if all other factors are the same, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service.
So, maybe if do a 3 out at time plan and do that 3 times a month for about 9 titles a month, I would probably not be throttled?

On the 3 at a time plan, I have experimented with different return rates and found that 15 a month would get me throttled, 12 a month would definitely not. While at a 15 a month rate, it took about 6 weeks before throttling began. I had a next-day-in-mail turn around on the movies they sent me the entire time I was throttled. I dropped to a 10-movies a month rate while throttled (but probably a random function) and was un-throttled in about 3-4 weeks (hard to gauge accurately). This experiment was repeated twice, same results.
So my best guess will be 5 movies a month rate per unit will get you throttled. 4 movies a month rate will not. Throttling will knock you back to around 3.3 movies per month rate, but is based on being bumped in the queue at your shipping location. Mine is Greensboro NC. Other shipping centers may have longer or shorter shipping delays. The biggest negative of being throttled is that all non-throttled users will get a constrained release before you.
So for about $2 a movie you can stay un-throttled on the 1-at-a-time plan. It is about $1.35 a movie on the 3-at-a-time plan. I hope that answers your question. :)

That's VERY good information to know upfront. Frankly, I don't have time for more than about 10 movies a month anyway. I'm thinking about the 3 at a time plan with 3-4 rotations per month. It sounds like that will work for me.

I've felt it on a rare occasion but just as often, I've been surprised at how quickly the replacement arrives. I guess sometimes I've been throttled but just as often I've been acelerated :D
I've been a member since either '97 or '98 and I've been very satisfied with the service. Discs come and go as expected and I rarely find myself without one lying around (I'm on the 3 at-a-time plan). Missing discs or damaged discs are never held against me, it's a great service. And hey, as opposed to Blockbuster, they have HD-DVD!
genfuyung 08-08-07, 04:28 PM I just finished watching the copy netflix sent me and mailed it back. Good movie. The picture wasnt anything special IMO though.
I am Long Wait, no email yet.

If you're doing 9 a month on a 3-out plan, there's no way you'd be throttled. That's fairly low/average renting.
It's the people who get 3 films on Monday morning, ship them back Monday afternoon, get 3 more on Wednesday morning, ship them back Wednesday afternoon, get 3 more on Friday morning, ship them back...
*Those* are the people (and others that maybe aren't that aggressive, but still get a bunch of rentals in during the month), that start to get throttled.
I average about 16 a month, and have only seen signs of throttling when that starts to creep up near 20 or so.
I have not had any problem with throttling. I almost always send a movie back the day after I have received it and occasionally the same day. Most movies are sent back out to me the day they get the return or sometimes the next day. Usually only takes one day to get the DVD to or from Netflix. Currently on the four out at a time plan. Used to be on three three out at a time.

3 movies per day??? How would someone like this afford Netflix anyway? They clearly don't have a job!

thetman 08-08-07, 08:05 PM lets see- we are in august- I don't plan on getting this movie from netflix before October-in fact my first ten picks all say very long wait. it doesn't even have to be HD- when did the movie bobby come out? It still says very long wait in my que for that movie. someday I will enjoy- I just don't have good luck with netflix.

srw1000 08-08-07, 08:32 PM I got Disturbia in the mail yesterday. I'm still waiting for Hot Fuzz and 300, though, which were at the top of my list.
