Hello,

I recently ran into the following problem:

Testing a Philips 3575 recorder for playback, I find that HDMI will not show proper 480P or higher upconverted rez and fails the HQV Benchmark first test (Color Bars/Resolution) with solid, strobing boxes instead of fine lines in area 1. My set is ED at 480P and I have found that if I can toggle the Progressive output off on any source player, the Component results are normal. But HDMI allows no such toggle.

What could be the cause of such a result? Or rather, why would progressive settings on display (native rez) and source equipment show less than 480P result, whether Component or HDMI?

[Edit: Checked for interference from any Still image setting and no change.]

Thanks for any ideas.

DVD recorder is the WORST for DVD playback. You should reserve it for recording only as it will wear out your DVD recorder drive faster to use it for playback. Get you a decent stand-alone upconverting DVD player like Phillips 5982/37 for $60 and don't bother with this unit for playback. This player also offer region free, DivX, and USB for flash media support (or USB hard drive).

I understand and have a number of players available, as well as a Tosh XS32. I'm only questioning the specific problem I ran across while trying out this new HDD recorder/player.
