Hi all,
I have a home being built and the media room is 18x21. The way the seating will be, the seats will be under some HVAC vents which drop the ceiling down to 8' for about 25% of the 21' length of the room. The rest of the ceiling can be 9' since there are no ducts. The builder was planning to make the whole room 8' to make it look better, but the screen size I want to get (120") doesn't leave much room above or below the screen for a center channel.

Is there any preference to a partially dropped ceiling (above seating) vs. a complete 8' ceiling instead given my concern for center channel speaker height for my screen size?

I would prefer the partial drop ceiling... you could add soffits around the perimeter in the 9 foot area to blend in with the lower ceiling. I think this adds a little character and visual appeal to the room.
