I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this, forgive me if it isn't.

I own a Sony KD30XS955 CRT HDTV. I noticed heavy discoloration beginning to occur. Luckily I had a warranty and the repair guy came over and though he couldn't completely fix the problem, he did drastically improve it by simply entering some hidden menus via my remote control.

Now the problem is coming back with blue and red clouds on the left side of the TV.

What can I do to get rid of them? I really don't want to have to get a new TV!

Thanks in advance.

That's strange. Try posting this over in the CRT (old fashioned tubes) forum. My guess is a loose or partially not working degausser ring. Modern degaussers eliminate electromagnetic buildup automatically everytime you turn on the TV.

Whatever it is, hopes you get it fixed - that's a gem of a set!

PS I am partial to old clunky CRTs - HD or standard!

This sounds like magnetic interference. Do you have unshielded speakers near the side of the TV where the discoloration appears?

Normally, this is due to something magnetizing the screen's mask, but I seem to remember reading about something particular to Sony's regarding this...something about a beam landing zone or something like that. It's a parameter in the service menu.

Sorry, but that's about all I know!

I have 5.1 speakers about 2 feet to the left and right and a foot from the top...

Try moving it farther away and see if that helps. You won' see the change immediately. Wait overnight.
