I've had a SP5000 for a while now. I finnally got a upconverting DVD player with the HDMI port. I got the M1 to DVI adapter the projector and a HDMI to DVI monster cable from the DVD player to the adapter. I was previously working off of componet.

I've gone into the setup on the DVD player and enabled HD 1080i but the screen goes blank. The highest setting I can get for now is 480p over Componet. Please help!

You get a blank screen? But the DVD player still plays on like nothing is wrong?

That is an odd one, I had this projector for nearly three years and used the crud out of that M1 / HDCP-DVI connection without any really issues with it.

So you see the player screens, just not the DVD menus?

Yes, I can hear the movie. When I swich it over to HDMI the projector goes into the scanning for input mode then quits and defaults to the blue screen.

I'm hoping it's just a setting somewhere. I checked the firmware and its the latest according to Infous' site.

This is the first HDMI device I've connected I wish I had something else to verify if its the DVD or projector.

I think DVI has problems with HDCP. I use DVI from my cable box and if I switch inputs from component over to DVI, about 50% of the time I'd get a blank screen on my SP5000. The only way to get the picture back through the DVI connection would be to shut the projector off, unplug it (or in my case flip the switch on the surge protector) and the next time I turn it on it will work, I just can't count on being able to switch to a different input and then back to DVI.

It's not just the SP5000. If I plug it into my LCD TV what actually happens is the picture is horizontally shifted. The right edge of the picture is smack in the middle of the screen, then a black gap, then the left edge of the picture. It fixes itself if I change the channel or bring the cable box menu up on the screen. I think the SP5000 just can't handle that, goes to a blank screen, and needs the whole reboot to get the picture back.

You might be able to get a picture out of your DVD player through DVI by messing around with it, but if unplugging the projector doesn't do it, you'll probably have to use component or try a different dvd player.

You said when you switch?

I'd surely at least make sure the projector is on the input upon power up and the source is set for HDMI also upon power up.

HDMI in general can be funky when two any given devices are not set for it on power up.

You cannot completely rule out a cable problem. I thought I was out of luck with my DVI out on my computer to SP5000. Just a blank screen. Turned out I really had to have the connection tight on the computer end. I was impressed that the computer came back saying I had an SP5000 connected for my second display. I have never had a problem going DVI satellite receiver to SP5000.
I dread the day I have to connect a more modern hdmi device. Has anyone connected a HD DVD or Blu-ray to the SP5000? Any problems?

I went through some switcher hell before upgrading my AVR to a Marantz SR7001, but I ran Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and my HD Dish box switched through the SR7001 to it for several months without issue.

That was the point of my post. Really the HDCP-DVI on that M1 connector is pretty darn good.

It even seems to be able to adjust to different color space being sent. RGB, SRGB, and even Component over HDMI all seemed to work properly without any settings needing to be adjusted.
