To me listening to a 5.1 , 6.1 sacd or dvd-audio disk on a system with multi-channnel 6 or 7 speakers is heaven. An Ipod or similar player is about like an 8 track in comparison. Well, I guess they like it in airports.

View Full Version : Sacd/DVD-Audio Compared To Ipod Listening Experience HoustonGuy 08-09-07, 04:07 AM To me listening to a 5.1 , 6.1 sacd or dvd-audio disk on a system with multi-channnel 6 or 7 speakers is heaven. IPOD = quantity over quality... Mark sivadselim 08-09-07, 06:48 PM Weird comparison, for sure. Of course hirez in surround (or 2-channel, for that matter) sounds better than most everything except "live". But my iPod with Apple lossless files and my Shure headphones ain't no slouch and, for what it is, is pretty impressive. I've always wondered what headphones and file types/bitrates people are using when they complain about the iPod's sound. My high quality VBR mp3s and Sennheiser headphones sound good, though you can obviously do better in other situations. neil wilkes 08-10-07, 10:51 AM There is no comparison between DVD-A and an iPod. VBR MP3 still stinks. You can remove the lumpy bits, but a turd is still a turd. vitaminc 08-11-07, 12:54 AM Weird comparison, for sure. Of course hirez in surround (or 2-channel, for that matter) sounds better than most everything except "live". Shure earphone or other high end headphones are accurate. But neither can reproduce the feel of a multi-channel music. While some argues that a very high end ear/headphone could sound much more accurate than speakers at equivalent price points, I experience is that none of the ear/headphones, even at the extreme high end, could reproduce the feel of the music. Maybe you should re-read my post. I never even implied that an iPod with any head/earphones could hold a candle to hirez multichannel music through speakers. That's why I said it was a weird question. HoustonGuy 08-13-07, 05:46 AM An Ipod is a Big Turd-"Its horrid" compared to the musical greatness of a DVD-Audio or SACD disc played on a multi-channel system in your living room- Ipod stinks- it is essentially stereo 8 track in your two ears- only louder, whereby 40% will be deaf by 2025. thehun 08-13-07, 06:59 AM To me listening to a 5.1 , 6.1 sacd or dvd-audio disk on a system with multi-channnel 6 or 7 speakers is heaven. Is this a revelation to you somehow, just now? bidger 08-13-07, 08:12 PM Is this a revelation to you somehow, just now? If so, it comes two or three years too late. |
