The DD+ on this disc is incredible. The DTS was decent on the SD version, but by comparison, to me it sounds a bit muffled. There are several scenes in this movie that make active use of the surrounds and really draw you into the scene. The press conference Anna Faris is having for her movie with "Keanu" features the clicks of cameras all around, the nightclub scene features all kinds of ambient noise out of every speaker, and the subway scene has trains squealing to their respective stops and the clutter of people going about their daily lives. And then there's the fantastic use of music...I'd just never noticed or even bothered to listen for these subtleties before. If you have this disc, turn it up!

yeah the music score is fantastic. i´ve got me the soundtrack-cd, when the movie was in the theaters. iirc the music is very important to Sophia Coppola and she takes great care in choosing it.
btw i really love this movie :)

This is one of my favorite movies but I'm hesitant to upgrade from the DVD. It's not a film where the visuals play a huge role in my enjoyment (it looks fine upconverted). The upgraded sound may be more of a factor. I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually, but I'll need to find it on sale.

If it really is one of your FAVORITE movies, then don't hesitate to pick it up. It's a beautiful transfer and great sound mix.

Some cracking music in this movie. Realy love the title Girls by Death in Vegas. :)
Thought I read in various places that the transfer was very average
Will have to investigate further....

I saw this movie on dvd and didn't think much of it. It just felt like something was going to happen but never quite did, a bit like most soccer matches

It's one of my favourite's too. Don't underestimate what HD can do for your movies, even ones you think don't need it. To watch it without compression problems, with gorgeous detail (did I say detail? I meant Scarlett) and, yes, the audio, is what this is all about.
Grab it post haste ;)

Sadly, imo the pq is only mediocre (for HDM) and varies quite a lot throughout the movie. Some scenes imo look quite spectacular, (for example when Bill is driving through the city right at the beginning), other scenes look rather 'dull' (especially inside the hotel).
But this has been the case with all the transfers i´ve seen so far, beginning with the theatrical presentation, then my ntsc dvd, several different hdtv airings up to this hd dvd. I could imagine, this reflects the intentions of the director. :)
I know how it looked in theaters - I saw the movie three times in a two week period back in 2004 when they re-released it during Oscar season - and this transfer is practically identical. It's an incredibly faithful transfer in my opinion.
