I should recieve my lens in a few days and have been wondering how many members are using the Aussiemorphic Mark II and what projector you are using with it. I will be using an H79.

Thanks

Hi Greg,

Let me know your opinion of the lens when you have it in action. I am looking at one of these when I finally have my new house finished.

Thanks,
Rob.

Curious, there is another thread here on the import fees charged on delivery of the Prismasonics, have you guys that got the Aussiemorph from down under had to pay these fees as well? and if so how much have they run?

I will let you know.
I had a Panamorph 752 the first time around and was happy with that but needed a lens with more flexibility.
From what I have read the Aussie II should provide the most bang for the buck and Mark is close to an upgrade  Great time to be in the Aussie camp.

Mark should be able to answer this!

I have a Aussie II lens. The price quoted includes all shipping. I received an email on a Thursday giving me my tracking numbers and I had the lens on Monday.

It isn't officially set up yet, but from just playing around it is great. You will not be disappointed.

Out of all the lenses I sent out, only one so far has seen the owner hit with import fees - he is in Europe...

You can add me to that list of import fee and tax for Canada. 70 bucks all together. Even with the slap from my government, it was still worth it.

I finally got my setup done, just need to mask my fixed screen as I'm not utilizing all of it since its a massive 16:9 screen. I'm using an Optoma H57 which works pretty good I must say. I tried out an Optoma HD7100 but planning to take it back. Sure the picture looks great but I still see SDE (thanks to the nice optics) and I dont like the way the exhaust vent produces a heat wave effect in front of the lens. I'll wait for 1080p to drop in price instead.

I look forward to Mark's add on upgrade lens if his protoype turns out.

I had ordered an AM MK I and paid no additional fees. I ended up selling that before I used it as money was tight at the time. Then when things improved I ordered a Prismasonic H400M. I did pay a small fee to the UPS guy who delivered my Prismasonic. If I remember right it was only $30. I had planned for it so it wasn't a surprise.

The USA has free trade agreements in place with Australia, Japan, most of south and central america and Europe.

What this means is that if it originated from any of these places, no import fees or duties as long as it fits into one of the import codes that has no tarrifs/taxes on it.

What screens are you using with Aussie II lens?
Mine is a celtec 500 pvc screen ultra white 53.00 for a 5X10 sheet but haven't cut it yet.
I know there are commercial screens out there but just thought it would be good to know!
Budget lens and screen but not performance.

Just make sure that when you do, you make the AR 2.37:1 so that you get true geometry when you align the prisms...

CAVX,
Please forgive me if this has been covered, but, I have searched this site without success for answers to these questions.
Will your design work with BenQ W9000/10000 projector?
If so; how does it change the projection distance?
Is there a track available to slide the lens in/out as needed?
Thanks

Yes, and because of the large optics it has no problems with short throws either....

If so; how does it change the projection distance?

It doesn't change the projection distance. A HE lens simply expands the width, not the height, so you can move the lens in and out of the light path to allow projection of different ARs all at the same height.

Is there a track available to slide the lens in/out as needed?
Thanks

Yes there is now a new design sled (manual only) using ball bearing runners...

I really would like to get an CIH system working with the new Sony coming out this fall. Would it not work with your lens?
What screen do you use? Curved or flat?

Thanks

Remember there is 2 parts to CIH -
1. Scaling - electrically re-formatting the image to fit the panel.
2. Optics - optical expansion in the horizontal direction.

So it's nothing to do with the lens, the projector (JVC) just locks up to 16:9 with HD, so will not remove the black bars for you, and I have to assume the SONY does the same with a digital HD input as well.

If you want to use these units (JVC is confirmed), your going to need an external scaler.

I use a curved screen...

I recieved mine the other day, no problems at all, extremely happy :)

Now just to set it up over the weekend and start enjoying it...

* If i was to clean the lens, what do i do it with? warm water?

* I dont have much room for error once i mount the lens box in front of the projector, so i need to do this right the first time... would you say id be ok if i was to place the lens right smack even in front of the projector lens? meaning the projectors lens would be in the centre of the aussiemorphic lens?

* Id like to get the lens tilt correct and fixed, meaning i dont want it adjustable once i have it setup, so i need to align it all up correctly, and set it up until perfect and then mount it fixed in that position( i will only have a sled to move it in and out), but i dont want tilt up and down, or sideways left to right.
If the lens is perpendicular to the projector, whats the angle of the lens/tilt that most find common?

Im just trying to minimise the box by getting rid of all the adjustability, due to room constraints, so ill see how i go with that.

Cheers,
Danny

I'd recommend using a soft dry cloth, but I've heard others discussing Windex on another product with no harm done. Whilst I have not tried it, I doubt very much that it would harm the optic coating and it would not leave streaks...

Generally yes. In my case with the extreme short throw, I have found best results from slightly off centring the Aussiemorphic Lens - I do this on the sled...

Unfortunately there is no hard or fast rule there - each installation will be different. You should be right to tilt the lens down once installed to get the most even image, then tighten the two side bolts using a number 2 Phillips head screw driver...

So what are the disadvantages of this lens with the lower price? Or put another way, why would I spend so much more for a Panamorph or Isco lens? Are the optics that much superior?

You need to keep apple with apples - the Aussiemorphic Lens is a solution aimed more at the DIY end of the market. It is a basic 2 prisms (BK7 and optic coated) horizontal expansion design.

The other products you have mentioned are multi element designs, so are very different to a basic 2 prism adaptor...

Yes a multi element adaptor (like the coming soon MK III) differs because it has corrective elements as well as those used for the optical expansion.

Both Panamorph and Prismasonic have 5 glass elements, so will perform better then a lens with only 2 elements...

i got my Aussiemorphic lens the other day, and i was able to get it setup, installed and tested today, and am very happy with it, i might play around with it a little bit more later, but for now ive got the main thing sorted.

I only quickly took a few pictures tonight, but i still have a little few things to clean up and repaint the middle beam where the lens+projector mounts, will do that soon.

Here are some movie shots:

So you are working on a multi element lens? You say adaptor, will that be an add on to the MKII or a whole new lens? What is the estimated time of arrival for this new MKIII?

I say adaptor, because prisms based units like the Aussiemorphic are not really a lens, but an anamorphic adaptor. I won't disclose anything at this stage except to say that there will be two corrective elements one for focus and the other for CA and I am hoping not to have to change the case, so an easy upgrade path...

I have not yet had the chance to test with that projector so based on throw ratios, I can not see why it would not work.

Some people have claimed that the Panasonic Smooth Screen technology tends to make the image look soft through an anamorphic lens (other brands, not just the Aussiemorphic Lens).

There have been threads since that counter the claim, so I suspect that the end result is end user specific...

I've had my Aussie / Optoma HD79 setup and running for about two months and they make quite a match for each other. With the combination AT screen and DIY monitors from HT Guide forum it can't be beat. I thought that mounting the monitors on a shelf would degrade the sound.Wrong. I've had at least three GTG with friends and they can't believe the picture and sound.

Can't wait to get my yankee hands on that upgrade :D.

Hi mate,
Yes, pretty normal... how bad it is will depend on your wall to the left(how close/what colour etc).

The way i eliminated it was by using a bit of curtain on the side.
