I live in a apartment complex. I called direct tv last night in regards to getting a HDDVR. I had it all setup to be installed this Saturday. The only thing Direct TV asked me was to get written consent from my apartment management stating its ok for them to hook up a new satellite. Today I ask the management about getting that taken care of. They told me I need to speak with there qwest rep about it because direct tv doesn't know how the apartment is setup. So I spoke with him today in which he explained that all the apartment units share one dish on top of the build. Each build has its own dish. He said this is there equipment and it will be upgraded in November to a dish that can receive HD. I guess the apartment has a contract with qwest for hardware but the feed comes from directtv. I can however have direct tv setup a dish on my patio but he said I wouldn't get a good signal. Right now I have two standard receivers that work fine with the dish provided from the apartment complex. My question is if i have directtv install the HDDVR and not the dish. Will it work fine with the satellite that is already provided by the apartments complexe until they install the new one in November? Will my feed look fine? Will I recevie any HD channels? Will Direct TV be ok with installing the HD DVR and not the satellite?

Sorry if I didn't explain the situation very well. Thanks for your time.

I think that's a question that you should call and ask them about. I don't see why you would have problems using the apartment complex dish...

"Will it work fine with the satellite that is already provided by the apartments complexe until they install the new one in November?"

Yes, though if you have line of site to the south from your patio, you can install your own dish as noted.

Will my feed look fine?

"It would look the same as it does now"

"Will I recevie any HD channels?"

If they have a 3 LNB dish now, you'll get the current national HD channels, if it's a single LNB dish, you won't get any.

"Will Direct TV be ok with installing the HD DVR and not the satellite?"

Don't see why not, they still get their money from you. ;)
