I'm wondering what you would purchase? I will be a first time PJ owner. Budget is a large concern here and the seemingly $1100 price tag on the AX 100 is a downer. Is it worth the difference? I've read the reviews and know it is King but they also gave the AE900 top marks.
Is the adjustability the same? I know pixelation won't be as good on the older model. Well, thanks for any input!

I own the PT-AE900U and have only seen the AX100U in store demo. I don't think the AX100U is much better in a light controlled room, but for installations with some ambient light, the AX100U would be worth the extra cost. I would also be concerned about the issues discussed here with the AX100U. Panasonic is a first rate company and I expect the issues to be addressed, but you should be aware of them by reading here before purchase.

I have own both and the ax100 walks all over the ae900.Not even close.Chris is totally wrong.Colors on the ax100 are 100 times better than a ae900.Blacks are better and sharpness is better. Not to mention brightness. With my ae900 I have to use a filter to even get close to a good pic.The ax100 has a buildt in filter.I consider the ae900 a fair fp the ax100 a excellent.Read the review's at PC and PP.This has all been said before.BOB :)

Well, if you can pick up a 900 on the cheap and put on a 81C filter I think you will be more than happy. That is my set up and I have compared it side by side with 100...The 100 is definitely brighter, and a tad sharper. But, I didn't really see any large contrast or black level improvements (viewed in an ideal theater) and I didn't leave wanting to upgrade...which is strange.

You are unhappy with your PT-AE900U in a light controlled room, totally dark? I don't have both in my home to compare so I defer to your analysis since you do but I think something must be wrong in your setup if you consider the AX100U excellent in a light controlled room and the AE900U only fair. Of course subjective terms like excellent and fair don't mean much and to you may mean something different than I would think. Colors are 100 times better?
