Very much a newbie to understanding the setup/needs for a dedicated home theater like being discussed here. I have searched through all of the Home Theater Threads and didn't find anything specifically addressing this.

My question is about powering a home theater. I see people describing setting up dedicated 20A circuits what not and much of this seems like overkill to me (I'm admittedly not an engineer).

At what point do you need to run seperate circuits for equipment? For instance I'm looking to add the NAD M25 amp at 160W/channel and will be running a 5.1 setup with B&W 803D & HTM2D front with FPM6s for rears and a 250W Infinity Sub. I'll be using my NAD T762 as the processeor and then my TV is the Sony 70' XBR2. Sources are Sat, 360, PS3.

The power needs mostly depend on the type and number of speakers and how loud you like to play your system. 160 watt a channel should do fine even with B&W speakers if the subs have their own power. For electric it is best is you can get dedicated runs for everything in you HT. That will give you the cleanest power.

You need to inventory your AV equipment to see what kind of power requirements you have. Most modest HT setups don't require anything more than one or two sets of outlets. If you were to add up the power usage (Watts or VA) ratings on the back of all of your equipment you will have a good idea of the maximum needs for your system.

A typical 15A outlet can provide 1800VA or roughly the same capacity in watts.
