View Full Version : wise to swap my hd 300 for blu ray?
Joey0480 08-09-07, 10:59 PM I have the option of trading my HD 300 for the blu ray version. Mine keeps freezing up at chapters 14 - 17 or so. What a pain.
I have the A2 with 2.2 firmware.
what do you guys think.
Swap it for a new HD DVD.
Of course! :)
bunkaroo 08-09-07, 11:04 PM If it's freezing and you have a BD player, I think it's a no-brainer... :)
Joey0480 08-09-07, 11:05 PM I would have swapped for another HD but I bought it from a member on another board so you know...can't really return for a swap lol

Ah, I see. Well, then, give the Blu-ray a shot -- especially if you have a Blu-ray player. :)
Stick with HD-DVD

"HD DVD outshines Blu-ray Disc with a better version of 300"
HighdefJoe 08-09-07, 11:19 PM trade it for the blu. to hell with combos

Contact Warner, they should swap it

Just so you know, both the HD-DVD and the BD version have identical PQ.
I own the BD and compared it to my friends HD-DVD version and you canīt tell any diffrence at all.
The HD-DVD version wins when it comes to extras though ;)
My copy of the 300 HD DVD was apparently faulty. I therefore had to face the same choice as you do. I finally decided to exchange my copy for another HD DVD copy. Here is why:
1. I love the HD DVD exclusive suppplements.
2. I simply refuse to buy a Blu-Ray edition knowing perfectly well that a second Blu-ray edition is gonna be produced as soon as Java is up and running. Especially so if, as I suspect, the next BD edition is in content identical to the current HD DVD one!
3. The picture and sound extracted from an HD DVD by my HD-XA2 cannot be inferior to the picture and sound extracted from a BD by my PS3.
Of course, if my new HD DVD copy of 300 does not work fine either, I will definitely reevaluate the situation. I will probably ask my retailer for a refund. Point 2. above seems to me an extremely strong argument against the current BD edition. I don't like scams!
sunnysky 08-10-07, 07:32 AM I would say, swap it for another HD-DVD.
IF it doesn't work, try it again.
If that doesn't work, then go ahead and swap it for the Blu-Ray, and then complain in a few months when you consider buying it again when Blu-Ray "double dips" you for the extra features the HD-DVD you got rid of months ago, already had.
Goatspeed 08-10-07, 08:20 AM It's funny you guys continue to support this format that continually releases products with these kind of issues.
Get the BD copy, vote with your wallet that you are sick of HD-DefectiveVD.
Even though I only had one problem with combos, i'm just boycotting buying them. They are too expensive and reliablity is so so. However i'm renting them since most new movies come in that format.
Joey0480 08-10-07, 08:42 AM I mean I probably could go to walmart and buy it and then return the defective disc...just say it won't run. ?
Everdog 08-10-07, 08:43 AM At first I thought the title said "wife to swap my hd 300 for blu ray"
That would not be good.
Joey0480 08-10-07, 08:53 AM lol...that was funny
looks like my idea won't work...must return unopened...son of a gun...
sunnysky 08-10-07, 12:44 PM You should always be able to trade in for the same format. Just a simple exchange. But if you try for a different format, you may have problems.
Maxflier 08-10-07, 12:55 PM I would have swapped for another HD but I bought it from a member on another board so you know...can't really return for a swap lol
Well if you bought it from a forum member and therefore can't return it to a store for another HD DVD copy, then how are you going to trade it for a Blu-Ray one?

Warner's VC1 video is bit-for-bit identical between formats, which is something that BD supporters gripe about on every BD50 release limited by HD30 and HD DVD supporters gripe about every HD30 release limited by BD25.

But the only gripe I've had with Warner so far is Superman Returns - everything else looks great. Some people just seem to like watching bitrate meters instead of the movie.

Either you are a liar and just want to spreed FUD in here or you just didnt knew, that warner is using the same transfer (video) on BD and HD DVD for 300.
FACT IS: both have the same picture quality.

Okie dokie
Ergoguy34 08-10-07, 07:17 PM Issues with a HD format disc, and trade it for another when you have a BD disc ( that you know will offer the exact PQ and do so with out freezing up) I dont know it sounds kinda crazy to me...

and even that isn't completely true. Superman Returns included TrueHD to fill up some of that amount of space.
No because:
1. Online features are actually pretty cool.
2. BD version has flickering issues throughout the run of the film (to be fair, so does my copy on HD DVD. I've now seen both versions, BD is more frequent and more apparent)

Why lie to someone asking for help you are not going to see any picture difference between the two and if you really would just like to watch the movie without interference get the BD if you are into the extras then go for another HD DVD version. :)
I had the same problem with the lockups on my XA2, but I bought both versions at the same time for comparison, so I just kept the BD and got rid of the HD DVD. While I do love HD DVD most of the time becuase you usually get more, I will no longer buy any titles that have a thread on here about problems that is multiple pages long. It's too late in the game to have this many defective units and it's wearing thin with me.

Did not see any of this on my Panasonic.

Good luck on that one. I've been trying for about 2 months just trying to get my defective cover (ripped at factory) for Charlie and the Chocolate factory replaced. But, OP, if you need the Warner numbers they are 866-488-4640 or 800-364-6928. Try the 866 number first. Hope it helps you out.

It's even funnier that you come into these forums on a regular basis when the 3 Billy Goats Gruff are waiting patiently for you to go back to your bridge.
I wonder if you will remember these problems in a few years when all of your BDs are suffering from Blu-rot? "Protective Coatings" have been tried for years and have failed for years. Some BDs have already been reported as having disk rot and you would know this if you ever bothered to support your format instead of trying to tear down HD DVD, but I digress.
Back on Topic: I would return the HD DVD to Warner and ask for a replacement or go to Wal-Mart or Target or another B&M, say it was a present and exchange it; the disk will go back to Warner either way.

Worked for me via Amazon. They sent me my replacement HD DVD in two days and it plays fine. I love the interactive features.

Sell your HD DVD player and all discs, and don't post in the HD DVD forum if you don't like or support the format. Very simple. I own both formats and actually prefer HD DVD for many reasons. I can go to the BD forums and post stuff, but only go there to see if there is a firmware upgrade for my player or to see if there might be a BD exclusive release for my player. Not to post negative "stuff" about the other format.
You seem to pop up here with your negative comments. If your are not here for HD DVD you should probably leave. As you can see from my above post, I have no qualms about posting less then stellar comments about combos, but in the long run blu ray is not getting my vote for "customer friendly" either.
