View Full Version : WHO wants 300 HD-DVD as a non combo???
BlackMR2 08-10-07, 04:28 AM Am i correct that you guys have had to buy it as a combo?
Hmm.... I got mine today and it's not (I'm in Australia)
additionally at the moment I can get HD-DVDs (decent rang of titles but not as many as amazon etc) for $25 AUD each in a 2 for $50 deal. That's about $21-ish US i guess.
So yeh, if you guys REALLY wanted, I could maybe organise some Aussie versios for you. Not sure once shipping is factored in what it would cost.
well guys, let me know and we can discuss it further.
BlackMR2 08-10-07, 04:31 AM here's proof in case you guys dont believe me...mmm cover art
only thing is that we get full width cases
BlackMR2 08-10-07, 04:39 AM hmm, i just had a look at some more of my HD-DVDs and it seems that we don't get combos here. My copy of the departed is also non combo.
halfsane 08-10-07, 10:59 AM isnt it the same in europe as well ?
i dont think they have combos either
which titles can you get there that aren't available here is the US???
...or you could order it directly from the premier Oz e-tailer, EZY DVD.
Here's a link to their HD DVD selection (http://www.ezydvd.com.au/mech/quicksearch.zml?f=title&q=hd+dvd&x=18&y=16)
Children of Men Non-combo
Superman Returns Non-combo
All the Rambos
Total Recall
Holiday
etc.
thewretched22 08-10-07, 01:36 PM I'm content with the combo, family members will want to watch the dvd side.
BlackMR2 08-11-07, 10:42 AM which titles can you get there that aren't available here is the US???
none, but some of the titles that are available just aren't combos.
I think maybe where i bought these movies they may not let me do this 2 for $50 deal excpet on some limited number of titles. There website has even changed to reflect which ones can be bought this way. lol
ni9ht_5ta1k3r 08-11-07, 11:08 AM Same in Australia: We don't get combos I have the Australian versions of Children of Men and Superman Returns - both combos in the US - are non combos.
Australia is becoming the holy grail of High definition.
no combos = perfect!
Hail Australia. Hail Australia!!!!

Yeh except it will cost you more than the combo price to get them here. So what the hell is the difference.
Commander Cool 08-11-07, 12:34 PM Sounds like paradise. I would have bought 300 on release day if it was non-combo. My rule is, combo=automatic pass.
Romerojpg 08-11-07, 12:45 PM and the Combo is good for 300 as on the other side you get another commentary! not on the HD side, so flip that dvd :) shame most reviews dont tell you this or list it at all
300 on HD DVD has 2 commentaries :D
So far no problems with Comboes, but I can see why people hate them for soo many reasons, esspecially if you keep getting dodgy discs.
But on the other hand a few people are buying them for the standard dvd alone, I know I will be borrowing some of mine to friends who have no HD yet.
As I wait for my replacement of 300 HD DVD from Amazon due to a defective disc I wish it had been released as a non combo. Hopefully my replacement will work OK. But my experience is I have had no defect problems with my HD DVD purchases except for the combo format. Of the 7 combo HD DVD's I own, 3 have proven defective. (300, Children of Men, and Music and Lyrics) I just bought The Fountain Combo HD DVD and will watch it tonight. I hope it works fine but I have become quite leary of the Combo format. So, yes I wish 300 had been released as a non-combo. I have the Toshiba HD-A2 and am running 2.0 firmware.

Lucky bastard.
ni9ht_5ta1k3r 08-11-07, 10:21 PM Loads of movies that are combos in the US are not combos in Euro or Australia like the two I've mentioned plus Smokin' Aces, The Departed, and 300 (per topic title).
