Hi all,
I'm currently waiting to buy a PS3 when my favourite game is released on it (MGS4), but since they will no longer make 60 GB PS3s with Emotion Engine in 'em by then, should I really buy one now ? or can I upscale my PS2 games with my PS2 through an A/V receiver or something ? If that's possible, will it be as good as the upscaling done by the PS3 ?
Any help would be really appreciated.

even without the emotion engine ps3's play and upscale ps2 games.
having said that, any scaler can scale any content, so if you have a receiver with a reon in it or something, that could upscale the ps2. it would have to be pretty high end to do a better job than the ps3 though- upscaling is one of it's strengths.

The Emotion Engine chip in the PS3 will allow for better compatibility of a larger percent of PS2 games. Even with the newer PS3 going strictly software emulation the catalog of PS2 games that should work will be at least 80% which is a heck of a lot of games.
To check current PS2 games that are compatible with the PS3, check the website below. If the games you play are on the list, you'll be good to go whenever you decide to upgrade to the PS3! :cool:

Dunno about that... I am playgin Resident Evil 4 on my Samsun 720p DLP and just too damn blurry when I have the PS3 upscale it to 720p. I have to turn it off for that game and let the TV do it.

The built-in scaler of most crap TVs do a better job than PS3.
Most of the problem lies in it's deinterlacing.

I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the PS3's upscaling of PS2 games. My TV's internal scaler does a better job.
That said, if they put a little more work into the PS2 emulation and got the games to actually render in 1080 (based on an upscaling of the original resolution), that would be something to see.

Upscaling PS2 games works great for me. God of War/II look amazing, almost-HD. No jaggies at all.
