Bit the bullet and purchased the 60G PS3 after the price drop. Love it both as a gaming console and BR player but having problems with the battery on the controller. Even if I leave it on all night connected to the PS3 (left on) the battery level only goes up to one bar and if I use it a while and plug it back, I get a low battery warning.

Something that should be RMA'able you would think. Well it is but after a call so Sony, seems like I have to send the controller in and wait up to 10 days for a fix or replacement! Given you can't do anything with the unit without the controller, that means the unit is out of action for that time. Much improved customer service would be to ship me a new unit, charge my CC and then reverse out the charge when the faulty one was received.

Thoughts or anybody else has this problem?

Larry

I would return it to the store where you bought it. Tell them it is defective and let the store deal with the process. Usally you get 14 days for electronics at most stores.

Trouble is I bought it from Amazon - not sure of their return policy but it would require sending something back

Buy a controller from Wallyworld and then swap/return letting them know the battery is bad. Instead of return for refund you could just swap out the controller to get a second controller (needed for 2 player games like Virtua Tennis/Fighter/Tekken, etc.) Wallyworld will then return to Sony who will swap them a new controller. In other word, Wallyworld will deal with Sony for you and you don't have to wait.

When you say the PS3 was "left on" are you only referring to the switch on the back, or is the unit actually "awake" with the XMB active, and everything?

I would look into and see what their policy is for returning and just go with what ever will be the shortest amount of time. In the meanwhile you could buy another controller that way you can always have one charged also when you get your other one fixed/replaced then you will one for 2 player games. ;)

I had the same problem with my first controller I bought for the PS3. It just would not charge, luckily I learned to keep my receipts for all electronics, so I took it back to BB and got one that worked.

I have done a couple of things.

Bid on a wired controller from ebay since for games two controllers are better than one. Also upgraded the firmware on the PS3 which seems to have done something - improved battery detection? Also asked Sony for a RMA and if I get the wired controller then at least I can still do work when the controller is en route back to Sony.
