Have my DMR-ES25 with HD upscaling hooked up to my HD LCD tv.
When playing DVD's, I need to SIGNIFICANTLY increase the volume on the tv to hear the audio on the movie; much more than when watching regular tv programming. This is rather annoying. Panasonic says there is nothing that can be done with the DVD player/recorder.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
One of the members (BUDGET_HT, maybe?) had a good explanation and fix for this, but not sure if he'll see this and the thread his explanation was in may not be available right now.
From memory, it has to do with the settings on your STB, in the area where you select narrow and wide, etc. Toggle between those and see if that's it. Also, he said something about using coax for the audio connection?
Sorry I can't be more specific...hopefully he'll see this!? :)
I do know that, if you experience audio dropouts on 5.1 programs, turn off Virtual Surround Sound (VSS), altho one user reported that, upon startup next day, VSS goes back to "Natural"? I think there's a FW fix for this now.

WTB1956, is this true of all DVDs or just ones you've recorded? I gather you have the player/recorder connected via HDMI cable. Have you checked to see if the same issue exists when using component video and RCA audio connection. Maybe it is an issue with the HDMI cable or maybe it is a defect in the player which needs repair or replacement.

as far as i can tell the incoming audio on pan. dvd recorders is compressed to fit within a certain range of volume (dynamic range ?). as you may have noticed there are no volume controls either for input or output.(at least i havent found them yet after 17 months of ownership of es 15 and my toshiba dr 2s do have input volume controls.) when playing back i find that because of this, i need to turn up avr volume a little higher than normal. i figure pan did this to cut costs. ill put up w/ it because the es15 does everything else very well, ie: pq. the es15 still sounds very good, just not as loud.

all dvd's do it, but some more than others.
