I'm not sure if I have the terminology correct, but this is what I want to accomplish.

The University has wireless internet which is what I use for my desktop, laptop, and ps3. I also want to purchase a 360 and have it online as well. I know they do not have wireless cards in them, and I do not want to snake cat6 all around the building.

Can I use my wireless router that I'm currently not using, and plug the ps3 into that.
Then, plug the 360 into the router?

Just trying to figure out the schematics involved with getting the xbox on LIVE.

no, you need a wireless card/modem for the xbox. ps3 won't let you have the ability to act as a hub/wireless access point.

You might need some local assistance getting the wireless router working with the University setup, but it should work. The major question is what limitations they have set in the policies, i.e. is it allowed to have your own router?

Another option would be powerline network adapters to get ethernet access, but that could be tricky depending on what your school allows.

i had to reread the OP's post. it confused me a bit but it sounds like he wanted to plug his xbox and ps3 into his wireless router which is not connected to the school's wifi. he can also be asking if he had his ps3 wired to the schools wifi and somehow plug his xbox into his wireless modem, that's not being used, and have the connection go through the ps3. hmmm, there's no possible way. you need a solid connection to the schools t1/t3/dsl in order for your wireless router to work. there may also be some security settings that needs to be configured and i'm sure the university won't allow you to do that. best thing to do is buy a wireless adapter that's made for the xbox and configure it like you would with the ps3 - wep/authentication keys etc. did i get it right?

I think the OP wants the PS3 to act as a wireless to ethernet bridge. And use his wireless router only as a wired switch. I don't think PS3 has bridging function. At least not yet.

But depending on the make and model of the wireless router, you might be able to configure it to be a bridge. You have to find out from the manual or vendor support.

Worst case scenario was having to make a 50 foot run into the entertainment room, and that's what ended up happening. The school doesn't allow personal wireless routers.
