I was window shopping at my local SonyStore in Toronto, and a noticed that they've got a new HDMI HDD recorder on the shelves. The sales guy didn't know much, but it was 1080p, 160GB, jukebox, USB with 3 S-Video inputs. It's going for $499 CDN.

It's a step up from the RDR-HX730, that's for sure. It doesn't have component inputs, like the RDR-HX715, unfortun;tley.

Americans not having access to these units is a tragedy. I miss reading all the good reports whenever a new unit comes out. In the long run, even Canadians are going to suffer.

Funny...Looks like a Sony basher just couldn't resist the temptation. :(

Typical...no mention of HDMI in the specs.

The specs on Sony's web site announce HDMI for this model, but it's nowhere to be found in the detailed specs. The picture of the back panel seems to confirm it's not there.

Did you mean it is there? The rear pic found from your link shows it right next to the Coax/Fan area.

You're right. It does show in the picture. It's odd that Sony failed to list it in the input/outupt section under the "detailed specs" tab.

Typical manufacturers "Left hand not knowing...etc."

Sony and 1080p through Component...not. :p

It does not seem to have an ATSC tuner which I think is now required for a new US DVD recorder model but maybe not for a Canadian.

There is no official analog cutoff date in Canada as yet. Most insiders estimate that Canada will not be pulling the plug on analog until Dec. 31, 2011.
