I rented a movie off my on demand comcast HD box today on my week old Panasonic TH-50PH9UK and it was a HD movie none the less; IT will not automatically switch to 720p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it stays in 568p or something like that    IT just won't recognize the switch. Is there anything I can do or is this the major problem with this model; will it not change aspect?? is there anything I can do to trick it???
Your description of the problem is not very clear. You might get more responses if you post this in the Panasonic 9UK Owners thread. We have Comcast with this same display and have no problems.
FYI, the Comcast tuner can be set to output HD in either 720p or 1080i, but does not pass-through the native rate. I'm not sure if this answers your question, but the display locks in FULL mode when fed an HD signal and you cannot change the aspect setting. If the HD signal is encoded with black bars (either letterbox for 2.35:1 or pillar bars for 4:3), then there is no way to eliminate them.

It sounds like your STB doesn't have its output setting set correctly. Like slb said, you can't change the aspect ratio on the 9UK when it's fed a HD source.
My Motorola comcast HD box doesn't have anything in the menu to change the from 720 to 1080 or anything like that. I don't know what to do. My 42" fujitsu didnt have a problem staying HD when I watched HD On Demand but the panny does; if it's the panny and not the box. But what you are saying is it's the cable box and not the plasma?? Right?? When I watch normal HD channels it's in HD but just when I go into On Demand or PPV HD it switches to SD, if that clarifies the prob. It just stinks, When I pay for a movie in HD im not going to be able to watch it in HD.
Sounds like a cable box setup problem. I'd call Comcast. FYI, we have watched several on-demand HD movies with no problems.

You need to turn the cable box OFF and leave the tv on. Then hit the "menu" button on either your cable box or the remote. This will call up a special service menu from which you can set the boxes output. Try 720p Good luck
