I am looking at 42 inch LCD-TV which does not have a DVI or VGA output port on the TV. It does have HDMI and component. The port on my laptop is VGA, so I am afraid that if I get a HDMI cable that it will not work properly since it is still digital. Would I be better off purchasing a component or HDMI cable for VGA port on my laptop? What would give clearer picture? What is more universal?

Also, since I assume many of you purchase this stuff often, where would you go to purchase cables?

Try monoprice.com for an inexpensive but reliable cable. They may just have a VGA>HDMI there.
