Panic Attack

Hi,
I've gotten my setup running and am experiencing an issue. I select the DVD-Audio layer, switch my receiver to its 6CH input and am able to hear my music. However, the sound frequently drops during less sound intensive momments.
The problem seems to come and go, since I had no issues with several discs this afternoon. It came back tonight.
My DVD being universal, I have no such issues when playing SACDs. Using the same output to my receiver.
It's really weird. Here's the equipment that seems to cause the problem.
Oppo 981HD Universal DVD player.
Harman\Kardon AVR 147.
2 sets of Philips red/white/yellow RCA cables that go from the Oppo to the receiver.
Help me AVS Forum! I'm stumped!

It's really weird.Yes, it is. Very.
All 5 (or 5.1) channels of the analog connections drop-out? And only with DVD-As? Are you absolutely certain that you're using the receiver's multichannel inputs? Cuz this "might" make sense if it was a digital connection that was doing this, but all the channels of the analog multichannel connection dropping out simultaneously? And with DVD-A only? I'd definitely look to the player as the source of the problem before I'd suspect the receiver.

Yeah! I'm going to see If I can get you guys an audio sample. I'm using the 6CH input of my receiver.
I've gotten a response in an other forum that may have some sense. You be the judge.
Have you the latest firmware?
I have the Oppo980 and haven't had any issues.
The only other thought would be that you are using essentially 2 audio and 1 video lead *2 for the six channels. Not sure if the video lead matches the audio leads in impedance etc. It would be worth trying another set of audio leads and removing the yellow video leads.
Good Luck

I've gotten a response in an other forum that may have some sense. You be the judge.Definitely do the firmware update, if you haven't. Doubtful it has anything at all to do with using the red/white/yellow AV cables. The yellow video cable is 75ohm and the red/white audio cables most likely are not, but this shouldn't cause any problems.
As an aside, it would probably be wise, just so that the front and surround R/L connections are identical, to use the yellow video cables for the center and sub connections.

I concur. Can you duplicate these dropouts (same place on a given disc)?
Have you tried increased volume at these dropouts (if you can duplicate them)?

I had the same problem on my old Samsung DVD-A player. I would be listening to a disc and it would drop out. It could happen one minute or thirty minutes into listening.
It became so frustrating I got another player. It would happen at different parts of discs. Often it would happen at the end of a track and just have silence until I manually changed to the next track.
Years later I hooked up the same player to the same receiver and no longer have the problem. I have no idea what the problem was. It just went away. I use that player in my office today.
It makes absolutely no sense.
Anyone else with this experience?
