Anyone see Heart on RAVE? I used to love that band. Ann and Nancy Wilson were probably the sexiest women in rock at the time and they were both in the same band. Just one question. If you're Ann Wilson and you're contemplating a "comeback tour" or whatever, don't you hire a personal trainer and get rid of a couple hundred pounds beforehand? Is that the way you want to look in HD? It's like watching Roseanne Barr sweating the oldies. C'mon, Ann. Get smart.

Sal,

Your joking correct? Ann Wilson could give a s@it what you or anyone else thinks of how she looks. She's wealthy, extremely sucessful and still in demand.

Plus she has a voice that will rip to shreds 99% of the teen sluts who pass for entertainers these days.

Lose weight because Sal wants her to??

Yeah right....your the smart one right Sal. I'm sure you have a seven figure portfolio like Ann.

Not that I actually care... but Ann was overweight much of the time in the band's heydey too. I watched a documentary one time, where she was talking about how the camera people would ask her to dress or stand behind things when they filmed or took pictures so the fans wouldn't notice. Kind of sad to me how much emphasis was placed on her weight back in the day.

With that voice...who cares how big she may have gotten. Also doubt she gives a damn. Good for Ann!

Besides, if you need eye candy, you can always watch her sister.

I agree with those who say it's kind of shocking that she's let herself go that way. You'd think that the calories burned by doing a rock & roll show would contribute to keeping you thin, but Ann must eat like a horse. She wasn't anywhere near this huge when the band was in its heyday; somehow her sister has managed to keep her figure over the years. Ann could have too had she been motivated.

If you think Anne is big now, you should have seen her before she had the gastirc bypass surgery. But forget about Anne, Nancy Wilson still looks pretty hot.

Was this the same Heart concert that was on HDnet a few years back?

Perhaps straying way off topic, but in Ann's defense, her weight has more to do with genetically/hormonally based issues that strictly due to "letting herself go" or "eating like a horse".

From wikipedia's Ann Wilson page:

She underwent a weight-loss surgery called Adjustable gastric band in January 2002 after what she calls "a lifelong battle" with her weight.

This surgical procedure eliminates a patient's ability to eat huge amounts of food (unless they want to puke it all up, of course).

From a 2002 USA Today article discussing her surgery:

And losing weight had concerned Wilson since early childhood. "It started for me when I was very young," says Wilson, who as a third-grader weighed 100 pounds.

"As an adolescent, being heavy and being a girl has got to be the worst, because you get so excluded and so laughed about," she says. "Fashion is so important and being accepted is so important, and none of those things are available to you."

Her childhood obesity surely had more to do with genetics/hormones/etc than what we are seeing in kids today - getting fat due to poor diet and virtually complete inactivity (sitting in front of their folks' HDTVs, playing HALO for hours on end).

Of course, Ann's fluctuating weight was very evident during Heart's late '80s/early '90s resurgence. I remember seeing a couple of their videos from that time period that showed shots of Ann "stretched" vertically (think anamorphic 16x9 DVD sent to a 4:3 screen). Other times, Ann was only shown in closeup. And was always dressed in "slimming" black.

During their mid-70's run, Ann did often appear thinner, but was always bigger than Nancy, who has pretty much been a stick her whole life (an attractive stick, mind you). Plus, that was pre-MTV, so most only ever saw album cover/promo shots of rock stars, which can be manipulated/mask things lke weight, acne, what have you.

Thinner than she was later on, but still "bigger" than her sister (who looks damn near anorexic on that single cover).

Still, fat or skinny....that girl can SING!!!!

Nope. HDNet showed "Heart in Seattle" while Rave shows "Soundstage".

I saw a tribute show a couple of months ago where they had a bunch of people doing covers of Heart songs since Heart was getting some kind of award.

Gretchen Wilson (the country star) covered Barracuda (IIRC) and she looked and sounded a lot like a young Ann. Nancy even took the stage and played on that number.

I'm also hoping that someone will buy the Midnight Special DVD set and tell us if the Heart performances are worth it.

Its a shame to everyone sees here only for her weight. I remember a DJ on the radio here said the he keep Ann & Straight by remembering that Ann and Fat both have three letters.

I agree that is sad.

I always remembered who was who because Ann sang about 99% of the songs... but one of my favorites "These Dreams" was the rarity that Nancy took lead vocals. That helped me keep them straight if I ever forgot.

The harder part was remembering they had nothing to do with Brian Wilson or the folks in Wilson-Phillips that came from Brian's clan. ;)

At least Ann's weight thing was more gradual and it always fluctuated.

The one who really shocked me was Kate Pierson of the B-52's. She was always so small and petite, and then one day I saw her and BLAM .

She's almost as wide as she is tall now. Makes me wonder if it's maybe some kind of pharmaceutical side-effect or something.
