Has anyone tried upgrading their factory 160gb hard drive? I'm thinking about dropping a newer 500gb drive in mine if it's possible.
Thanks in advance!

History of HDD units says that major companies go to great pains in preventing this practice. Expect to fail. Dave STEELERSRULE 08-15-07, 11:08 PM He won't fail in installing a 500GB HDD. Not at all. The unit will just fail to realize the 500GB, and only recognize 160GB of it. That's all. You might as well just get a 160GB HDD, and drop that in there if the current one fails because that is all that it will recognize. I guess it all boils down to what you consider a failure. He was expecting to increase his storage space from 160GB to 500GB. I would consider swapping a 500 GB HDD for a 160 GB HDD and only ending up with the same space you started with, a total failure. If you consider that a success then I guess I was wrong. At least he knows what to expect now and he can decide if he wants to try. I know Panasonic will treat you that way. I am not sure just how Sony will treat you but I am pretty sure it is not worthwhile trying. Dave |
