I have Comcast.I had it as long as I can remember.I have the HD package with every channel,DVR,internet,and phone through Comcast.Verizon Fios just became available in my town.Is it better than Comcast???Does it have as much or more HD channels than Comcast?Is the Fios internet faster? :confused:

I just made the switch from Comcast to FIOS (Northern NJ) The PQ is, to my eye, considerably better on both SD and HD (I have two Tivo S3s) The internet is blazing fast, and most importantly in my book, the customer service is miles above what Comcast could ever offer.

The channel lineups are pretty close (although the FIOS is much more logically laid out {all kids channels together, all movies channels grouped etc.}) FIOS does have HDNET and HDNET Movies which Comcast did not have and I really enjoy both of those channels. FIOS does not have MOJO HD , but I personally didn't watch anything on that channel

All in all, I'd tell you to make the switch and never look back. You won't be disappointed.

FIber to the Home is a lot faster than cable broadband. in some states Fiber offers 50mbps.

If you're a sports fan in NJ, you won't get all of your local teams in HD, as VZ's main competitors owns those networks [Comcast SportsNet, CN8, MSG or Fox Sports NY], and don't [thank God for free enterprise] have to give over the HD signals, yet.

Do you view local cable news [CN8, News 12, NY1 or community/city access programming]? Verizon has none. Though they'll charge a percentage of your bill to it. They are trying to glom on to the connections that the local cable companies have

And with Verizon there are many hidden [or not so hidden, if you read your bill] taxes due to its legacy as a telephone company.
And lastly, with cable you're not bound to a contract, much like FiOS or VZ's cell phone services -- see all the hell stories about people who try and get out of those contracts.

If you subscribe to Verizon local telephone service, then you are subject to all sorts of taxes on that service, but that has nothing to do with FiOS. You don't have to subscribe to Verizon phone service to get FiOS Internet and TV. [I don't.]

I think you're confusing them with DirecTV or Dish. They do offer about $5/mo off the bill if you commit to a one-year contract.

This connection sustains that throughput 24/7. By comparison, Comcast charges $53/mo here for their plan with 16Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream, but sustained throughput is often just half that.

My FiOS TV service with 200+ digital channels and 25+ HD channels costs under $40/mo. Verizon has since increased their package price by $3/mo, but that only affects new customers, not older customers. When was the last time you got a mail from Cablevision or Comcast that said, "Hi, we are raising rates by 8% for new customers to improve our services, but as an existing and loyal customer, your rates will stay the same."

My total FiOS bill with 30/5 Internet, 200+ digital channels, 25+ HD channels, one STB, and CableCards for my TivoHD is about $100/mo after taxes. This is my regular cost, not some promotion or contract price that expires after a year. How much do you pay?

I wish I had the option of switching to FiOS. I'd be gone from Comcast is a second.
