Was just looking at the Versus HD schedule and found a link to the press release for Versus 07-08 NHL coverage.

linky (http://www.versus.com/nw/article/view/40544/?tf=sports_generic_article2.tpl)

All of the network’s regular-season games are exclusive and VERSUS’ regular-season schedule features an exclusive Game of the Week wherein VERSUS will be the only place on television to watch the NHL game in the U.S. at that time. Every NHL game on VERSUS will be produced and shown in hi def where available.

I'm going to make a guess that the Sunday Sept 30th game from London, England will either be on MojoHD or tape delayed that evening when Versus HD is back on the air.

NEW YORK – August 15, 2007 – The NBC NHL "Game of the Week" drops the puck on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 with either the Boston Bruins at New York Rangers or the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks at the Dallas Stars as NBC enters its third season as the network broadcast partner of the NHL with a new innovation: the NHL will offer flexible scheduling for NBC's nine regular season dates (see below schedule).

NBC will be able to select from up to four games on Sunday afternoons. Thirteen days prior to the scheduled games (on Mondays), NBC, in conjunction with the NHL, will select one of those games as the "Game of the Week" to be broadcast during the NBC window. The other games will remain available to the teams' regional carrier but will not be televised during NBC's broadcast window.

Next season, all NBC regular season games will be broadcast on Sundays for the first time and all games will be presented in high definition. NBC will broadcast postseason games on select Saturdays and Sundays, and Games 3-7 of the Stanley Cup Final in primetime.

Potential schedule highlights include: the NBC "NHL Game of the Week" making its first regular season visit north of the border as the Montreal Canadiens host the New York Rangers on Feb. 3; the Ducks traveling to "Hockeytown" to meet the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 10; and Sidney Crosby (the NHL's youngest MVP since Wayne Gretzky) and the Pittsburgh Penguins dueling conference rivals the Rangers, who added Scott Gomez and Chris Drury (both former Stanley Cup champions) in the off season, on March 30. Teams are permitted up to four appearances in the NBC NHL "Game of the Week."

I see that NBC is still heavy with Pittsburgh, Detroit and the NY Rangers. The interesting thing is it says that a team can only be shown 4 times. They will have to pick wisely early since the Rangers are involed in 8 of their flex games, and Detroit and Pittsburgh in 7.

I wonder if WMAQ NBC affiliate in Chicago will have their $hit together this year and pass through the HD signal. Last year, they said they did not have that ability so we were stuck watching SD hockey

The only way I order CI this year is if Comcast gets the HD package to me or if I switch to D*

Might have an addition to the NBC schedule

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2992844

There is apparently going to be another "Ice Bowl", NHL style.

According to a report from The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres will play an outdoor game on Jan. 1, 2008 at Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

The game will reportedly air nationally on NBC, but neither the network nor the NHL would confirm the report.

"If and when we have something to announce we will make sure the announcement gets heard," NHL spokesperson Frank Brown told the newspaper.

ESPN The Magazine's E.J. Hradek originally reported in early June on the NHL's plans for another outdoor game.

In 2003, the league took the game outdoors for the highly successful "Heritage Classic" in Edmonton. A crowd of nearly 60,000 braved sub-zero temperatures at Commonwealth Stadium to see the Oilers skate against the Canadiens.

That game was preceded by a legends tilt, featuring stars such as Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Guy Lafleur. Messier, who at the time was an active member of the New York Rangers, received permission to participate in the special event.

Does this mean they're not pre-empting locals, unlike last year?

Looks like Versus got screwed by Bettman too.

BTW, the 'outdoor' game in Buffalo was confirmed by the Buffalo News last Friday.

Sabres will play outdoors on Jan. 1 (http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabresnhl/story/147955.html)

The Buffalo Sabres will take it outside New Year's Day.

Various NHL sources have confirmed the Sabres have firmed up plans to play the Pittsburgh Penguins in Ralph Wilson Stadium at 1 p.m. Jan. 1. The long-discussed Ice Bowl will be televised by NBC.

An announcement is expected in Buffalo on Sept. 10.

Multiple sources claimed the Ice Bowl was in jeopardy of not taking place because financing the construction and maintenance of an outdoor hockey rink was difficult, but a deal came together this week.

NHL spokesman Frank Brown would not confirm the game had been finalized.

"When and if we have something to announce we'll make sure it's announced loudly," Brown said.

The Sabres declined to comment.

Ralph Wilson Stadium seats 73,967 for football. Crowd capacity for hockey, with room for additional field seating, could be greater.

The Ice Bowl would be the first outdoor NHL game since the Heritage Classic between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens in November 2003. Despite a minus-18 degree wind chill, 57,167 watched in Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

NBC has chosen Philadelphia @ New York Rangers for that week. That is game number three on NBC for the Rangers leaving them only one more available. I'm guessing NBC will have a heavy dose of Pittsburgh when Crosby returns.

Flyers/Rangers later today should be an outstanding game. It's a remarkably close race this year and the Flyers seem to have righted the ship after a horrendous losing streak through February.
