News flash - Canada wins the DVDR price war! Go, Canada you have brought America to its knees...except that no one is buying DVDRs, so, therefore, no one cares. The term "sad" comes to mind when I try to think of a word that sums up this thread. Proud to have my name associated with it when it finally gets to AVS archive land for all eternity. LOL!

There was a guy from Alberta selling a EH55 for $1999.99 a few days ago.

Was he only selling it to Americans for that price and charging Canadians less?

Obviously no Canadian would be buying at that price since they have retail and presumably also discount access to supply which we do not. The OP is referring to obvious scalping aimed at a desperate audience.

This is just textbook supply and demand. No one is forced to buy them, no one needs the recorders to survive, and on top of that there many other ways to buy them.

Thats just like the scalpers who post $100 hockey tickets for $699, they never sell, much like the ES55 would never sell for $1999.

You would get a customs declaration form and try to get back the GST you paid on the purchase to the Canadian province where the store was.
