Go, Canada you have brought America to its knees...except that no one is buying DVDRs, so, therefore, no one cares. The term "sad" comes to mind when I try to think of a word that sums up this thread. Proud to have my name associated with it when it finally gets to AVS archive land for all eternity. LOL! Oiler1 08-16-07, 08:35 AM Which examples of rip-offs are you referring to? Tony Check Ebay for current prices from Canadian sellers. Of all the things weve been screwed over by the americans for we can at least have the pleasure of beating them with DVR's I am not saying all Canadians are doing this. There's always opportunists on both sides of the border. Two wrongs don't make a right. ClarkeBar 08-16-07, 09:58 AM Relax Oiler1...Supply & Demand. Appropriate aphorisms: A fool and his money are soon parted.........but then.........a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, etc., etc. To each his own. Bialar Crais 08-16-07, 01:25 PM Im looking on ebay and I dont see anything out of the ordinary as far as prices go for DVD Recorders by Panasonic. There was a guy from Alberta selling a EH55 for $1999.99 a few days ago. Kelson 08-16-07, 09:52 PM Was he only selling it to Americans for that price and charging Canadians less? ClarkeBar 08-16-07, 11:01 PM Obviously no Canadian would be buying at that price since they have retail and presumably also discount access to supply which we do not. The OP is referring to obvious scalping aimed at a desperate audience. As always...Caveat Emptor. ncaahoops 08-20-07, 11:55 PM As a Canadian, I am ashamed of my countrymen for trying to rip off Americans for 2 -3 the price here. This is just textbook supply and demand. No one is forced to buy them, no one needs the recorders to survive, and on top of that there many other ways to buy them. Bialar Crais 08-22-07, 12:36 AM Thats just like the scalpers who post $100 hockey tickets for $699, they never sell, much like the ES55 would never sell for $1999. dsmith901 08-22-07, 10:33 AM Someone has to feed those poor starving Canadians! 6volt 08-28-07, 01:28 AM Hummmm.... I'm not that far from Canada. So what would happen if I went there, bought one, and brought it back? gerrytwo 08-28-07, 01:43 AM You would get a customs declaration form and try to get back the GST you paid on the purchase to the Canadian province where the store was. 6volt 08-28-07, 02:59 AM Is GST a sales tax? But no penalty or tariff for bringing into US? Maybe it is a prohibited item like satellite TV stuff? plplplpl 08-29-07, 07:07 AM Is GST a sales tax? Yes, it's the Gouge and Squander Tax, a federal sales tax. |
