Is it me or sometimes Food HD picture quality tends to look better than Discovery
HD Theater? To me it's eye candy and consider it as a reference apart from Jay Leno
and Conan O'Brien.

That's because FoodHD is broadcast in 720p ... :)

There are too many variables to determine why this 'may' be. First off, I would surely discount 720p as the reason. I wasn't even aware that it was 720p to being with. Properly sourced 1080i will certainly provide more 'wow', especially for studio shots.

But variables to consider are studio environments that you often see on Food HD (much easier to control than being out in the wilderness), the video nature of Food HD as opposed to Discovery HD which has a mix of film and video. However Discovery HD video-based material can truly be stunning and every bit the equal if not better than Food HD!

The type and quality of HD Cams being used is an important issue. There are others, but it surely isn't the fact that 720p is being used and it's certainly debatable which provides the 'better picture'. Good Discovery HD material is very tough to beat and is considered by many to be a benchmark along with HDNet (both 1080i).

Not much difference between 1440 and 1280 pixels.

I don't have Food HD yet, but HGTV HD on Comcast looks stunning. As good as or better than Discovery HD Th.

"Tongue was planted in Cheek" when I posted the reason being the 720p..
I agee there are many variables that have more to do with what the OP was seeing .... :)
