I have a spike in my sub's freq response I want to get rid of. What is the cheapest (but still good... so <$200 is reasonable) solution available? I did do some searching and the FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer seems to be mentioned a lot around here. Is that they way to go? Thanks so much.

The SMS-1 is cool and all, but I hate paying for OSDs and UIs I don't need as I am quite competent at all this stuff. After all, I teach SCIENCE (Brand new job... very excited!).

"whoopie"?? Ouch!!

Lanion - with your interest and background, you might well want to check out the information on the RoomEQ Wizard and BFD at this site. LOTS of tips there on how to configure the tools and approach your EQ question. Plus you can download the software from there.

I am currently running the BFD and can say it's a great tool for eq'ing a sub. It's a little time consuming the first go around but after you get the hang of it it's a breeze.

You mention you have a spike. Have you actually plotted the FR in your room or is that just a guestimate based on listening? If it is the latter a lot of times just playing with the phase or moving the sub a couple of inches can eliminate or at least alleviate the problem. I believe the less interference to the signal the better. I unfortunately had a nasty room that required some help. While the SMS 1 is touted to be nice (I just had a similar question posted comparing it to the BFD), if you are willing to invest the time, REW is great, the BFD will equal anything you can get out of the SMS for a fraction of the cost.
