Please help. Recently purchased an ONkyo 605. Have a fairly large room. I need to buy 7.1 speakers. Since room is large I assume I need a good sub, 2 towers and a center. The last 4 being bookshelfs I take it? Anyway can I geta good set of these 8 speakers for $1200 - $1500. I dont need earth shattering sound...just crisp sound and not distorted or cheap if that is possible. I just need adequate. The price does not include cabling and install. If not ... I will go with 5.1 and work my way up. What about Klipsch?

Also, I have a pair of extra Klipsch computer promedia 7.1 THX speakers. They are small, but work. Can I use those.

Again..please help..not even sure what speakes I really need for 7.1 I want music and I want Surround Sound. So again....a good center...a good subwoofer 2 towers and 2 -4 bookshelf or whatever for 1200-1500. Any help is appreciated

You might be able to get a lower model Polk set for that much. Visit their web site. I firmly believe that Polks are some of the best bang for the buck speakers that you can buy. The Rti series is on extreme discount right now from factory because they just released a new rtiA series

I bought a Klipsch (Synergy) 7.X system from Best Buy. I had a very tight budget and that was the best that I could afford from shopping around.

I didn't buy the Sub as I plan to try and build one. I got 4 S-2's for surround (which can be shelf or wall mounted), a pair of B-2'S for left and right and a C-2 for the center. If you look at Klipsch's website they pair the B-2's with S-1's and a C-1. I wasn't sure why they were doing this so I called their technical support area before hand and the knowledgeable CSR informed me that I do in fact want to pair the series according to the end number because of range capability. I questioned why the website had them paired differently and he stated "because some genius in marketing thought it was a good idea". The 2 series fit nicely into where the sub's crossover would fall into.

I bought this system for less than $1,000.00. If you frequent the BB website they tend to post a good deal on these speakers every couple of months but only for 2-3 days not the full week.

I recently hooked the speakers up temporarily and was quite pleased with the sound and performance. Crisp, clear, excellent all around for the price. I had checked out the towers at the store and they seem like a good deal as well but definately pricier. I am thoroughly impressed and pleased with my purchase.

Do some reading and ask some more questions on the speaker forum:

Look at AV123. They're an Internet-direct company that sells great speakers at a good price. You can put together a 7.1 setup from their X-series line of speakers that will fit your budget. The only drawback is that all their subwoofers are out of stock for another month (if you can't wait, then Hsu Research sells subs that are well regarded for their price). I have a setup from their more expensive Rocket line of speakers, and I love how they sound.
