I found I can sell the Audio adapter and HDMI cable that came with the Elite for $40. As I have HDMI cables and an HDMI reciver these items are not needed by me. Is the $60 difference worth it for an Elite compared to a HDMI premium?

Yes it is you will get a 100 more gb more storage for downloads, games etc I have a premium without HDMI and will upgrade to the Elite next month 20 GB is to low and it costs like 196 for the Hard DRIVE. I can get an elite for 250 with a trade in.

What about using other non-MS hacked Hard drives to work with the 360?

Well, what's 100Gb of extra HDD space worth to you? $100? Zero?
Can you think of productive ways to fill it?
If not, $60 is Bioshock or Halo 3 or Mass Effect. Hardly trivial.

the only real reason i could see for getting an elite now is if you feel you need that extra HDD space for movies, music, etc. i find it much easier to just stream everything since WMP 11 does such a great job with it, but its your money and if you want that extra space then get the elite. otherwise, get the premo and buy a game

The elite seems to be the "no regrets" system for most. I think more people will regret not getting the elite instead of the premium than those who get the elite and wish they just got the premium.

As the months turn into years, those extra $60 will be a faint memory, but those extra 100gigs will always be there to satisfy your storage needs.

I am trying to decide if I want the Premium with hdmi or get another elite. Got my first elite with the product replacement plan at Bestbuy. Payed the difference and got the elite. Now my second premium just got the 3 red lights. So now have to decide on another premium or another elite. I do watch and record a lot of tv. So if they go forward with their IPTV the extra space could come in handy.

Game saves are on the HDD, achievements are stored on Live w/ your gamertag.

If you buy the Elite just call M$ and get the free migration cable. It took about a week to get mine in the mail. Then just transfer everything from your old HD to the new one and then sell the old 360 to your buddy.
